NVIDIA SLI Dual GeForce 8700MGT with 512MB GDDR3 Memory
    XPS M1730, Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000(2.8GHz, 800Mhz 6M L2 Cache)
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm

Nice looking lappy, better than the pics I was looking at when I was thinking of buying it.

No reason to get nasty. And please dont try to go around the language filter.

It is true though. You can get a better GPU than you have for (probably) cheaper. Not saying yours isnt good. But they get better than that. ;)

    Pretty nice computer overall. ;)

Nice laptop ... no doubt about it

But value for money ? Not in a million years .... There are better alternative out there, such as sager.

    Sorry pal ...

But anyway since you already have it anyway .... have fun gaming for about a year before needing something better :p

It will still be a good graphics card in a year. ;)

There will be better, but it will still be a decent card. ;)

I think I will install Win 7 in time. I won't / didn't buy it to play games on. I never have or ever will play PC games. Just some video editing and having something portable to take with me on trips.

As far as some of the negative comments that ticked me off, I buy what I want when I want and pay what I can afford and it is my business. I don't need some punk lurking in forums to tell me what I should have bought or should do and pretending he is trying to help me out.

And that's all I have to say about that.
    :D :D

I recommend the Dell XPS over a 'Gateway/Acer' machine any day of the week. You cant get something for nothing. I bought the same exact machine for two co-workers and they have NO regrets. As for price who cares, if you can afford it great, if not go whine some place else please. I'm the I.T manager for a medium size business and after many mistakes with 'other companies' Dell is by far the best I have ever worked with. We have purchased/leased well over $90K worth of Dell equipment without a problem.

    I don't want value, I want quality!

you dont get it at all do you? dell does not equal quality, it doesnt even equal value either... your money is going to their advertising, not to the quality of the products

    woodstock

"yeah, my 1330 is junk too, extending the warranty tonight because i have already had every part replaced besides the memory and cpu i think... dont think it is going to stop braking any time soon. the good old days of the m170 and 9300 are gone unfortunately... my 1505 is still kicking but beginning to show its age (and my wife's abuse) but it is still 100% more reliable than my 1330. my m1730 seems ok, nothing wrong with it yet anyways, and i have 2 more years of warranty so not too worried. besides the fact it is huge and heavy and uglier than sin it is ok..."

    wolfpup

"Yeah, it would add 1/3 to the price of the 1640 I'm looking at. I don't really trust Dell anymore. Their forums are gone (essentially) so I can't get help from mods there if I need it, and I know that's sometimes necessary, given how bad outsourced support usually is. I don't really trust them to honor the warranty, so I'd rather gamble by having the money to buy a new system with, I guess."

hey, don't quote me dude, i would take a 1730 over a gateway any day of the week, even if i had to spend extra money, even with the problems i have had. i see your posts and think your comment was rude and meant to start trouble. the dude has been excited about getting his new machine for a while now, and you fire off a cheap shot and act like you were trying to help. shame on you

i may not like dell, but bringing up my comments like that is just mean.

lol blue diamond. How old are you? 11? No, 12 right? Nothing like a bit of light entertainment in the mornings... Obviously no serious offence intended. But seriously, look at my post count. You are a really cool teenager to make me post about you. And for your age, you have an immense knowledge of computers. (You unfortunately haven't experienced enough human contact to understand the consumer market though). The next time I buy a laptop, I'll make sure to consult you. Your fees aren't too high are they? I can pay you in baseball cards? Speak soon.

I too don't understand why someone would shoot down someone's pride and joy. This is a DELL forum and to mention GATEWAY is sacrilegious. I wished I had an m1730 too but I still luv my m1530.

I myself got a XPS 1730 over the Sager I had a year before, but only because I got a good deal.
Some people will go for the better deal, others for the looks.

In the end you have to go for WHAT YOU WANT, PERIOD.

    Congrats of the beast dude.
