Hi there. Recently my M1530 has on occasions been unable to shut down properly. When I try to shut down, put it to sleep or hibernate, it just restarts and give me an error message: "Windows did not shut down properly...." and asks me whether I want to boot into Safe mode or run Windows normally.

The only clue I have as far as why this happens is that my temperatures goes really high after the restart and the fans don't seem to start. Whereas before the normal temperature for my 8600 is around 50-60 on idle, it skyrockets to the 80s. same goes for my processors: from 40-50 to 70.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue, a Vista issue, or a BIOS issue, and if this has been covered before, I'd very much appreciate a solution.

    Thank you all.

Put Vista in Verbose mode and see where it hangs.

Click Start, and then click Run.
Type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
    Browse to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System.
Double-click Verbose vs normal status messages, and then click Enable. To force an immediate refresh of the computer policy settings, run the following command at a command prompt:
    secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce
