I believe my video card in XPS 1530 is failing, from time to time i get half inch by half inch colorful checkboard pattern on part of my screen, usually shows up in the same place.

    anyone else experienced that?

It could be your video drivers or an overclock artifact. And yes, a faulty gpu is always a popular option.

yep, little artifacts on screen are a sign of your gpu giving its last greetings :(

maybe call dell and have your motherboard replaced?

Nope no proof. Tell them that its messed up and they will replace it for you. happened to my old m1330 3 times. Part of the reason why i sold it.

i can't stand dell, called tech support, first some lady in India answered to "better" direct your call, explained to her what was the problem, she barelly spoke english, and didn't understand what checkboard pattern is, then was was giving me tips on how to replace video card in laptop.

Then she transfered me to some other Indian person that spoke english better but still didn't understood the nature of the problem, his idea was for him to use remote desktop to my PC so he could see the checkboard pattern on his PC, how stupid are these tech support personel.

video ram or gpu problems won't show over remote destop or on screenshots(most of the time).

Is it similar to this? I've been experiencing the exact same symptoms lately.

pic = gpu failure, or the early stages at least.

ok, got the board replaced, reinstalling windows now, just because ;)

anyway after the computer re-Assembly the center button control (that thing what power button and the all the rest of buttons) didn't fit correctly. when you press the eject, play, volume buttons it squeaks.

Tech left, I tried to re-attach it, but no change. Still squeaks, anyone had that problem before?
