I have been using the m1330 for about half a year now. I know the GPU might be faulty, so do not give me any lectures on why i should have gotten another laptop, because there really is no point.

    I have the following configuration:
    2.4ghz processor
    4 gigs ram
250 gb 7200 rpm hard drive
    Windows vista 64 bit

Now from my observation using various tools i notice that the GPU has 3 different modes. The idle mode which runs at about 187 mhz, the middle ground which runs at 275 and the full throttle mode which runs at 400 mhz.

Once the GPU reaches a certain temperature, which i notice is around 102-104 degrees Celsius it goes to the middle mode, cools down to below 90, goes back to 400 mhz mode and continues in this rotation.

Now my problem is that even when the temp on the GPU is at over 100 degrees, the fans do not go at full speed. Therefore, my GPU never really goes below 95 degrees Celsius, and doesnt go back to 400 mhz mode.

What can i do to change this? Do graphics drivers control fan speed, or does the bios? Any tips?

Seems definitely like a faulty GPU due to high temps, or motherboard problem. Is it still under warranty? Might want to contact Dell Support and tell them about your high temps.

These factors play a big roll on your issue also bios and video driver versions, so which do you currently have installed?
