Is it just me or does the fan seem to turn on and off consistently?!?

I remember on my Inspiron 9400 the fan was whisper quiet and only came on momentarily.

With this XPS it seems as if it turns on at least every 3-5 seconds for little bursts.

I have never heard short bursts with my fan.. but I know when it is on, because it is very loud.

Seems like the fan turns on every 30 - 40 seconds at least when it's audible.

The fan on my 1530, I really don't notice it that much. ;) :))

And, when it comes on, it's actually not loud at all (probably why I don't notice the sound) :D

I also tend to have music blasting in the background, so that could cover up what I'm not hearing ;) :D :p

I wouldn't say it's extremely loud but it is audible.

I wouldn't worry about it.. unless it is really annoying you. Try playing around with the power settings. Use high performance when plugged in, and power saver when on battery.

I'm getting the motherboard replaced, keyboard, aluminum trim with touchpad and LCD replaced. So we'll see what happens after all that.

The USB port on the top-left is not aligned correctly which means I have to push in the flash drives or other USB devices really hard causing the plastic around the usb port to come up a little.

The left mouse button on the touch pad is slanting inwards.

The aluminum on the aluminum trim is turning white.

And the LCD screen has severe back-light bleeding.

    :(

...Why don't they just send you a completely new system?

Exactly how far out are you? I would think that it would be more cost effective for them to just send you a new one if there is that many defective parts in a single system.

I'll try to take some. It's almost like someone rubbed alcohol on certain areas and the brushed finish is burned off. It's noticeable extensively from certain angles.

Fans are turning on with temp. 10-12 degrees below 60 degrees C.
