Well i have a studio xps 1645 (specs in signature).
I have been facing heating and throttling issue. I have had multiple parts replaced on this laptop but in vain so they offered me a relplacement.
I was approved replacement about last wednesday but have't heard a word from them after that so i called dell and they said the specs would be mailed to me within 48 hours.

When the mail arrives i would request them to give me 1647 with i7 620 + RGB-LED, would the consider my request, as i dont want to face the heating/throttling problems of 1645 again ??

Also,When i baught the laptop i had to choose between Win 7 ultimate or extended warrenty, Well i have a dell inspiron 6000 which is about 5 years old and still working without problems, so i choose win 7 ulti over warrenty thinking i wont require that extended warrenty, Now after facing so many issues i feel that that i would require the extended warrenty. So now can i ask them to extend my warrenty against the win 7 ulti.
Would they even consider any of the above two requests ??

Swapping an i7 720QM for an i7 620M? No chance! That's a really pricey upgrade you're talking about and I can't imagine Dell giving that up without a fight! They may however consider an i5, so maybe lower your demands. If they make you sacrifice your RGBLED, THEN you can demand a hefty processor upgrade!

And I also highly doubt they would swap your win7 ultimate for an extended warranty.

    Best of luck! :)

Hope you're being sarcastic regarding the 720QM vs 620M, sounds like a fair tradeoff as he's giving up quad core for dual core. The two chips are priced similarly, the 620M costing less and having better two-core performance. Keep in mind that when running only two-cores on the 720QM with turbo-boost, it should rev up those two cores into the 2.x GHz range all the same (maximum core operating frequency is 2.8GHz).

I do agree that doing OS->warranty swap probably won't happen unless you're within the return policy period and return it / re-order it.

I'm not sure what the MSRP's are, but the 620m is more expensive than the 720qm on ebay or any other place.

    Compare Intel® Products,
    720QM: $364.00
    620M: $332.00

Performance wise the 720QM is superior, 620M benefits from being a newer design but they're in difference classes, the 620M being in the upper end of the still low-end/budget dual-core class. Quad trumps dual.

@gaah - The 620m was a £200 add on for the basic i5 1647, which costed the same amount as the basic 1645 (720m). I was just saying that if Dell charges that much for it then they won't give it away for nothing.

What your asking for with the CPU will actually cost Dell less money, so I don't see why not. Ask, the worst they can say is no. As far as the OS/warranty goes, I doubt it. I don't know exactly how OEM software keys work with Windows, but I don't think they can take back your key and give it to someone else. Still, ask and see what they say.

What should i do even if i don't get the mail on monday??
Should i ask for the manager ??

And what should i say him to fast-track the thing ??

New systems will take 2-3 weeks, while refurbs take less than a week. All you can do is wait though.

On september 1st, I was approved for a system exchange. On the 3rd, I saw specs on My Account at dell.com . I never received a call or email or anything in the mail. The specs on the replacement were significantly lower than my current laptop so I chatted with dell and had them cancel that. They then told me it will take another 2-3 weeks before I get my replacement system.

Sometimes dell systems are fast. My replacement took exactly 1 week and it is brand new. My original order took 1.5 weeks. And my Xps m1330 took a month. Sometimes its fast sometimes not

Well the call does come finally from dell.

They say that 620 is not available.

So what should i go for now 540 or 740. I dont want heating issues again.

    would 540 be a big downgrade ??
