I have been trying to make my laptop run cooler for quite a while.
I tried every other thing suggested (that did not involved opening my laptop) and finally i disabled turbo boost and changed some windows setting
and finally there you go .
It runs much cooler than ever before.

Many of us had turbo boost imposed upon us. I wanted a future-proof quad core, and turbo boost came with that. However, when I do things like heavy code compiling or video conversion, turbo boost has a very noticeable effect

A quick change of power plans can easily enable/disable the Turbo Boost function. (I have all my 5 plans on hotkey)
-
@matrix5: can you please explain how you map those power plans to hotkeys? Thx =)

@Jubeltrubel:-
I think it will be easier if I just link you to my source:

What are the drawbacks of disabling turbo boost?

Single threaded applications might run a little slower, but other than that there won't be a huge amount of difference.
