Finally, my XPS 1530 being replaced due to GPU fails!!

If they are going to replace the battery, they may make you wait until you receive your replacement system ~ and then have you call/chat when you have your actual service tag #, so they can order it then for you & ship it out.

That is what they had me do for my 6 cell & Travel remote.

That is long. Sorry . It almost sounds like they're just shoving your issue to the side. At this time I'd call and be very, very stern about the status of my system and the long ridiculous waiting that I've had to experience...(chatting doesn't allow for quite the same expression). Maybe compensation is in order?

 

I'm to the point where if the system doesn't get shipped out next week I might just demand to be moved up to an Alienware that's in stock. An M15x of "equal or better" performance would have to have the 260M to be able to match the 4670, so it'd be worth the extra weight IMO.

I just think it's sad that I've had to wait so long, just to get moved up to specs that others are getting better than.

P8800, 3GB DDR3, 250GB HDD, and the 4670... which I actually had to bargain for.

 

Maybe you will see some movement between today and Monday? I would certainly, hope so.

Gah! That is too bad. You could always, if you wanted, try the Unresolved Issues route..if you thought it would do some good. Those types of phone calls are painful for 2+ hours (esp. on your walled) sigh.

I think you will get some decent specs Did you get the "3-4 week" completion time bit? That, is about how long it takes for a new one. And the no real contact during the duration can be agonizing.

You will want to keep up with them via Chat, and continually check your Account via dell.com

Did you get a Distpach/Order ID Number, or anything from your Rep you were dealing with?

It took nearly 8 days before I saw anything "active" via my account online..

I do have a distpach/Order ID number, i had just got the ball rolling today. It was interesting, the guy got approval from his manager immediately, and afterward the manager wanted to talk to me, just to make sure i was happy with the service provided to me. Definite Thumbs up IMO to dell on that with their support. Im sure i wont have to nag them, iv got plenty of other things to keep me occupied in the mean time (Final Fantasy XIII Tuesday). Anyways i will definitely keep everyone posted on the updates, and give as much info to others with questions as i can. I am a Computer tech as well, so feel free to hit me up for advice if ya need it.

I honestly think I'm being given a giant serving of bullcrap on a fake-plastic silver platter. 7-10 days to receive it even after it's been "shipped"!? The order was re-made on the 5th... there's no way in hell it's shipped yet!

I was told yet again tonight by an (imo) much better rep who I think was ACTUALLY from the My Tech Team department, (he spoke English! Real English, no accent! Heck, he worked in Seattle... and I couldn't even pick up a lot of scripted lines. It was epicness.) that the system was listed as "dispatched," but that there was no shipping info associated with it.

Any ideas? Please? I'm starting to hate Dell. T.T

 

Ok, BliT. I read through your post and I really feel your anger. Sorry you had to go through all that . This would be beyond frustrating for me as well (as for anyone). The best thing I can suggest at this point is to contact Dell's Unresolved Issues Department. They seem to have helped a few people in the past. Here's a link I found to their department. Click on the "Go" under the Customer Service part, explain everything to them (the extremely long wait, the frustration, and all) and fill out your info, and then wait for their e-mail. Hopefully they will be able to help...

 

Should i contact support and see if there are faster exchange options? Or mention me not wanting something with a HD3670 since its a downgrade from my current GPU?

 

If it's truly a downgrade, Dell is under NO circumstances allowed to give you that GPU... equal or greater only.

I can't seem to find your graphics card in the parts listed, however I do see one line with "discrete" and "256M," so I'm guessing you have the 8600GT-M? If that's the case, the 3670 is still a step up... just not by much. HOWEVER: Once Dell has created an order, chances are they WILL NOT move you up to a 4670. On top of that, if your order has moved into the "In-Production" stage, there's no way in hell they're going to change it. They only upgraded me after my second order was canceled, and even then it was a long shot. In the end I had to talk to a second supervisor and ask him to push another request through. It worked, though... it only took 5 weeks of waiting to convince them I should be reimbursed.

In terms of time: I've been told my exchange has taken much, MUCH longer than normal, by more than just one person and/or Dell. If by some chance it does take extremely long as mine has, Dell may actually be willing to make it up to you. I was able to get an upgrade to the HD4670 for free, and am also being shipped a new computer instead of a refurbished one as you'd normally receive.

Back to my exchange: since we're talking about time... IT JUST MOVED INTO BOXING! Apparently, the new order must've been made due to parts coming back in-stock. Add that to my tech rep's supervisor making SURE it was expedited this time, (for some reason other supervisors wouldn't get replies to their requests...) and it must've been built in the last 2 days! If I had to guess, I'll have the new system by the end of the week!

It's great timing. I was going to make an unresolved issues claim, but I was waiting for my "My Tech Team" rep to call me back tomorrow night. Thanks for your help on this guys, hopefully the system is worth the wait! ^.^

 

the HD3670 is a IGP, where my 8600GT is a Discrete GPU, there for you get more cpu use from a IGP, and you share memory bandwidth with your System Memory which is a no go for me.

so replacement SHOULD go like this

8400 ---> HD3670
8600GT M --> HD4670

Has everyone received refurbished laptops as their replacements? No one has received a brand new system with the newer i5 or i7 cpus?

 

I'm supposed to be getting a new one before the end of the week, but it's a 1640 running a P8800 C2D. =X

Think I have been hit with the bug and am getting screwed. My wife has a 1530 with the 8600. She started complaining about it shutting off while she was playing facebook games, the rest of the time it runs fine. Download and run furmark, it cuts off in 15 seconds. Call Dell and they tell me to run the start up diagnostic, it cuts off. After putting me on hold for 15 minutes they come back and tell me they want to replace the whole motherboard on my dime because the GPU is not the problem because it doesn't display any visual errors, EXCUSE ME. The system is out of warranty but the GPU extension is good until June. The last reading I get is 86 degrees before it shuts off. Are they right or am I being screwed?

 

Hey Boom..What error code did you get when you were running the Diagnostic? I ran the Diagnostic the final time my 1530's GPU decided to flip out on me

And, yes..it prolly is the GPU. You prolly were not using Chat were you, since you warranty has expired. Chat is so much easier to deal with the Reps.

No error code, it just cut off.

I called back and after an hour and a half they finally agreed to replace the motherboard. A box is on the way so I can send it back. Now I assume that the warranty is only good through June on the replacement right? So I guess when I get it back I better stick it on ebay and get rid of it since it's only a matter of time before it fails again and I'm just screwed?

 

The GPU warranty is extended for 1 year after your lappy's warranty expired. I am fairly certain that GPU will fail on you again. It's prone to. I would keep an eye on those temps, keep em logged, and be prepared to call Dell for another Mobo replacement, and after another one if, before the warranty is up....I would just ask for a lappy replacement.

You didn't investment that much money into a good lappy (minus the "fail" of the GPU)..to have this continually happen. It shouldn't matter whether or not your main "warranty" is expired or not. It all comes down to the GPU, being the main issue.

And, you can always take the "Unresolved Issues" Route...and see what happens. Some peep's I know have gotten some good results from that. Dell Unresolved Issues.

You know what I just realized? I got Dell'ed (screwed) when I first got my 1530... I didn't know what the GPU extended warranty was and was told I had to pay $300 for a new warranty to get it repaired.

Oh well, we won't tell them that *I* didn't break it. ($200 laptops FTW.) *snickers*

 

I was annoyed enough by the bad specs of my new 1640, but it did throttle. I complained on the phone and got a refund which I put towards an M11x.

The persistence finally paid off!

Yeah that's great! I'd take any 1647 (you can't go wrong with the Arrandales). It also has the RGBLED (which I have yet to see in person, but need to lol), and the 4670!

I have to look back at old posts to see why yours is being replaced since I haven't been on (since all my computers were sitting around in boxes).

Also, I dbanned both machines before shipping them back! +1 for the recommendation!

 

She had an accidental fall...(it slipped)... ..So Complete Care (Accidental)..came into to play..So, glad I had it.

It was suggested a few times to push for a blu ray drive..but I don't want to push my luck.

It's so awesome that now you get something even better just for dropping it! I think I have complete care... well, I only have the lowest warranty with the M11x that's coming. That 1647 is the model that has the fewest throttling problems too.

It would be cool if all laptops were like toughbooks. But then again, how would we ever get new ones!

I can't wait for the M11x to come, I'm back on slow desktops and netbooks for the time being.

WOW...Cin' that's a major upgrade...You got the 1647! That thing handles heat much better than the 1640 that you had, and, I believe, better than the 1645. It doesn't throttle as much, if at all really (Not exactly sure). You now got an RGB-LED which will blow your mind when you first see it (you just need to change the settings a little to make it perfect). You got the new i5 processor which is really good. You even got a 6200 wireless card, which is newer (and better) than the one you had before. You even got Office 2007...Damn...I'm happy for you. Congratulations! Now let me go think about where I'm going drop my 1645 from to get a 1647 ...ahh how about through this window here...

haha my status is still PND lol so no specs yet or any of that lol, and Huge Congrats on the Core i5, my Desktop is the Core i5 750 (i self build my desktops). You will love that processor, i believe the mobile models are Dual Core with Hyperthreading (2x Physical cores, 4x logical cores)

 

What all did you send Dell back with your M1530? I just sent the battery and charger, not my leather binder/travel remote/ear phones/software! Do you think I will be charged?

Dell just told me to send the lappy & battery back with the 1530, so that is all I did. Don't send anything else back. And, no you won't be charged...I wasn't! I think they just really want the 1530 back so they can do what they need to do with the parts, etc.

There is still no new info, my status is still PND, and nothing has changed. I think Dells Exchange system should be abit faster. Or at least the 1st part of it (getting your specs, etc) should be faster. Week 2 is almost here, im beginning to think its gonna take longer then the 3-4 weeks they said. now my laptop is starting that awesome Hard Drive Noise that causes a huge DPC lag spike. im guessing Dell is swamped with exchanges right now, which is why its taking so long.

 

Trying to get on chat to discuss replacement for my lappy. Was talking to a rep and got disconnected. When I tried to get back on, I got this message.

I checked on Dell, and apparently it won't take until 4/02 to get the M11x. The new EDD is 3/20, which would be great. I've had enough of this Pentium II, Atom, and Celeron D nonsense.

I've been seeing an M11x on a near daily basis, and it seems great, except for the screw threads that got stripped on that one lol.

I can't wait, I'm just ready to get situated on one machine at this point.

Also, I have a negative charge on Dell, indicating they got the throttling one back, but I guess they don't have the M1530 back yet. I mailed them on the same day, one from UPS, and the other from FedEx.

I would hope by week 3 you would get yoru specs...Usually by then you have them by that point. I check daily (well more than that for "updates").

I think it is the system replacements that is taking so long & part delays.

Is there anything in the 1640 specs that shows the backlit keyboard. Or do all 1640s have that?

 

Is the Intel P8800 compatible with the ATI 4670? Dell is telling me that it isnt and wants to send me a different comptuter! I told them I am not happy with the 3670 and that is what they said, i will have to wait another 5 weeks and it will probably be replaced with a 1645!

 

I wrote earlier that my refurb keyboard died. So after some haggling, Dell agreed to configure a new one like my refurb. But....they ordered a 5400 instead of a 7200 HD (and the wrong lid). They said they'd change it. But of course they didn't. So after more haggling, now they're configuring another computer (3 more week's wait.) They just sent me the specs. My refurb specs are hard to read. So I'm hoping someone can compare the refurb with the new. I just want to make sure that I'm not getting the Dell runaround again.

Well i got an update on my account, and have a overnight shipping number, but this is what has me worried.

Looks like they are exchanging my M1530 for another M1530 >,< which i can guarantee is gonna have the same exact problems, im not a happy camper right now.

 

See if you can send it back and get a refund. I went on Dell chat and kept asking for managers until I was able to set up phone appointments with even higher people. They're much easier to work with and I got an 80% refund from the original M1530 purchase price which was good enough for me. This took days to work out since they kept calling according to central time and I'm on the East coast. But it was worth it.

In other news... the M11x has shipped, I can't wait!
