    Hello,

I currently have XP installed on my XPS m1530. I wanted to install the drivers for the fingerprint reader. I got the Udi driver pack and opened it up and saw the .inf files for the fingerprint reader. I didn't find any unknown devices in Device Manager so I went to the Add Hardware Wizard and after forcing the installation of the drivers (via Have Disk method), it would say the device cannot start. Finally, I installed the Fingerprint Reader Suite and it would always tell me to plug in the fingerprint reader.

What should I do ? Any help is appreciated...

Udi is a user who compiled a All-In-One pack of drivers for the M1530 and Windows XP.

    Maybe the chipset driver first?

Try looking for updated drivers... or there might be a conflict. Seems to be the only problem.

Tried even a computer format and reinstallation of proper drivers still nothing in device manager. Is there any way to check if the fingerprint reader is properly installed in the notebook ? Maybe the cable is disconnected or something ?

OK... Found the dissambly manual and discovered if you dissassembled the keyboard you can actually see the fingerprint reader cable... However, will this void my warranty ?

I've read posts from other people, who say Dell has sent them a replacement keyboard for the buldging keyboard problem.

If that's the case, I don't see how removing your keyboard would void your warranty, but you might call Dell first, just to be sure.

I've found only about a 2 minute wait, when calling XPS tech support, so for two minutes of your time, I'd check it out with Dell first.

    Good luck!

Get Dell to send out a Tech to look at it. You get premium support due to buying an XPS so make good use of it!
