Hello all,
Well i ordered my XPS M1530 yesterday, and after recieving an e-mail saying it is estimated to be here on 19/5 i though i might get planning for what i am going to do when i get it, since it will likely come early anyway.
I am not sure if i will really need to do a full format of my windows drive, and re-install. Now i know that would provide performance improvement, but wouldn't a straight Start-up and background process clean up solve most of those bloatware via a basic programs clean up?
Well i have read this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=157838
And i don't really understand what is happening too well. Is he re-installing Windows or what there? Also wouldn't it have just been easier to use a windows disk to format anyway?

I think things like... bring the package inside... open it... put everything together... set it up... turn it on. Those are just plain common sense. I am talking about after that. Do i clean it up or do i just format and start entirely clean. And what is that guide all about too?

Then take it out of the box....
No, that's a clean install, gets rid of the bloatware, etc--> which is what you'll want to do!!! -

Clean install = reformat, that's what I'd do, then nothing is there that is unwanted, it really helps.
His guide is removing all of the bloatware dell gives you if you don't want to clean install. -

So just as soon as i get it... put the Vista disk in there and do a clean install? Do i get a driver disk with it? Or will i have to do on the site first and download all of those?

I'll be getting my M1330 from Dell this week. I'll definitely be re-installing the OS to get rid of the bloatware. Also, I would suggest downloading some temperature monitoring programs i.e. GPU-Z (if you have a dedicated card), CoreTemp, or RealTemp (to monitor CPU temps).
Call me paranoid -
By the way I got the 40 GB C drive and rest in other drives partition done by Dell itself.
So far no problem .Dont know if it will pose any problem in future or not .
I think they supply bloatware in "Made in India" models.

First thing you do is to upgrade your BIOS from A07 to A08 .
This will solve your touchpad lag problem to some extent besides other issues .

First thing you should BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE is turn it on and check the display for any 'grainyness' issues. Make sure your happy with the clarity of the display. Then you should touch the palmrest while the notebook is plugged into a socket and see if you get a tingling sensation. If so, you're being electrocuted as the power cord isn't grounded properly. Then you should listen carefully to the noises the HDD and optical drive make. If it's too loud you may want to talk to customer service. Note that the slot load optical drive does make some noise when inserting and ejecting a disc.
If after all those checks you are happy with it then you can go ahead and update the BIOS and reformat/repartition the notebook and reinstall Windows for smoother/faster performance. -

As for the grainy displays it depends on what resolution you ordered and model of the display itself. It was very common for people who had 1680x1050 Samsung displays. This is what I have but my display is fine. -

I ordered a 1440x900 from the Small Business site, which should make some difference to build quality from what i hear.
First thing to do when i get my XPS M1530
