Hi - I have an 8 month old M1530. Intermittantly I have experienced horizontal lines (multiple) that flicker. It depends upon the angle that the screen is tilted backwards. Although I have found ways to "fix" it in the past (by opening the screen completely and then adjusting to the prefered angle), I am now getting these lines at any angle greater than about 80 degrees. And, I can no longer fix it. Any ideas what this is? Can I fix it myself (loose cable) or do I need to call Dell. It is still under warranty.
    Thanx. m

Generally, while it is under warranty have Dell look it over. It depends on the level of service you have on the laptop. If you have on site technician as part of your warranty, I would have them fix it. It would save you the trouble of having to take apart the laptop and put it back together yourself. There are alot of pieces and parts that have to take apart in a specific order to get to the correct cable to see if its loose.

Hop onto Dell Chat (easier than trying to explain the problem to someone who barely speaks english) and explain the problem to them. They will have you do some troubleshooting steps first. They will then decide if a technician needs to be dispatched.

    Hey there,

If your having problems with your screen, like that..you should use your warranty and have Dell replace the LCD screen for you.

There is no need for you to attmept to fix yourself, unless you really want to! ;)

Thanks for the help. I called Dell after performing the requisite diagnostics. They are sending out a new LCD, MoBo and Cooler. That seems extreme to me. Anyway, I am a bit bummed that it's not just an LCD cable since my LCD was one of the good ones at its resolution. I don't know if I will get lucky twice. Fortunately I had the next day, on site service plan. m

I'm glad they are repairing it. Sorry..it's not the LCD Cable issue, also :(

Well, having next day on site will be good for you! As soon as the parts are received by the On-Site Tech. they will be around to fix for you. Usually, turnaround is pretty quick! ;)

Please let us know what the technician did for you.

I'm having the exact problem, in some positions/angles the display has flickering (vertical) lines.
You can see here how mine looks: JPG (The background should be white, not red/pink).

I'm currently working around this problem by moving the display a bit, so this is definitely a mechanical problem (loose or interrupted cable or something).

After contacting support, via email, and have me perform some tests, they told me the same thing, that the problem is caused by a faulty motherboard and heat-sink.
I am a technical person, and as I was having doubts about this diagnostic, I started investigating a bit. Found out that the problem is coming from the left hinge of the lid. When I squeeze or pull the hinge the problem either shows or disappears.
On the right hinge, between the lid and the base of the notebook I can see a thin cable, which probably is the wireless antenna or web cam cable. Most probably the ribbon cable of the display goes trough the left hinge.

I know this is an old thread, but I am having the exact same problem. The warranty on my computer is expired. The screen has purple or green lines across the screen at various screen angles. Things that should display white turn purple and colors that should be black turn green. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
