    Hello,

Many of Dell XPS owners noticed that they get stutters on certain games... espicially when the framerate is lower than 60. Using an emulator called Kega Fusion.. I was able to see a very accurate reading of the framerate. I enabled V-Sync and noticed that I was getting 59.5 FPS instead of 60 FPS. The game would stutter also. When V-Sync was disabled, I got tearing. but no stuttering. So I decided to plug in an external display.. and guess what... the stuttering was gone.. and framerate was stuck at 60.0 FPS. So I'm it has something to do with the display timing on the XPS. Does anyone know some tool that can do some low-level tweaking in terms of the refresh rate so that I make it 60 instead of 59.5 (Windows thinks its 60 because its rounds the decimals)....

    Thanks

OK.. using the custom resolution option in the nVidia Control Panel, you can set a custom timing at put the refresh rate at 60.499. It solved all the stuttering I had... Just to make sure.. can that damage the display in any way ?

AFAIK, no, it won't damage your display.. infact my default rate is already at 60... so I guess no.

No one can answer such a simple question ?

Does setting a custom timing and setting a Display Refresh rate to 60.499 instead of the usual 60.000 hz cause any damage to the display and its internals.. I'm sure many would like the answer...

I doubt it. If you were talking about increasing it to something like 85Hz, then it might cause damage. But you're talking about less than a Hz.
