Hi all,
Just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction to install Windows 10 on an XPS 9360.
The machine came with 128GB SSD and I am planning to replace it with 512GB SSD. I've purchased the drive but have not installed it yet. It is WD M2 SATA SSD (I understand there are NVM drives which may be faster but this is cheaper hence I purchased this one).
Once I've repalced the drive, what changes do I need to make in the BIOS? I have created the latest Windows 10 Pro USB via Rufus (Using UEFI Option - Is this the right approach or shall I change it to Legacy in Rufus?)
I've also downloaded all drives from Dell website for my machine and I am hoping that installation goes smooth. Anything else I need to check/verify before changing the drive?
Thanks

Hi BrighStar,
I am not a pro but i did this about 3 times on Asus PC (N750JV x2, Zenbook UX32VD) and it went well at each time
Here is how i have done it :
- First, get your Windows 10 licence key and be sure to have saved all your documents
- Creat a bootable USB key (i don't know Rufus, i allways used the windows tool : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=56485
(not a lot of option so not a lot of question)
- Turn off the PC, change your SSD (change RAM at the same time if you want to do so)
- Turn on the PC, hit F1 F2 or F12 or whatever you have to hit to enter bios
- In bios, select boot on USB. Boot on it.
- Install Windows on SSD
- Use your licence key if you have it, if not Windows 10 will still be installed (and if you are lucky, it will find alone the key which is stored i don't know where)
- Connect to internet, let Windows do all the update
- Install driver if you need to (with Asus, i did'nt need to install anything, maybe touchpad driver for multi touch)
Everything should go smooth
Good luck !BrightStar likes this. -

I actually just ran thru this with mine, I purchased a Samsung 860 Evo 500gb.
I first used the microsoft media creation tool to make a usb flash drive and installed the m.2 ssd.
Booted from the thumb drive (f12) and installed windows.. mine came with home and it installed and activated with no issues. Let windows update do it's thing and all the drivers I needed installed as well.BrightStar likes this.
