GPU Replacement or Not ?

i have an xps m1530 for 6 months now and i have no issues with its 8600gt, however im worried as it will fail as time goes on.

so my question is, does dell/nvidia had fix the soldering issue on its 8 series cards ?

if i would ask for a replacement, would i get a new 8600gt GPU or the old-waiting-to-defect 8600gt card ?

 

If it hasn't failed, or doesn't seem like it'll fail anytime soon, then you should be lucky and not worry about it. Don't think Dell would supply you with a replacement GPU unless your current one is failing or has failed.

 

You have a two year warranty on the GPU so you are covered for a while. I wouldn't be concerned about it. They aren't going to do anything about it if it isn't failing.

They haven't fixed the issue rather they are just replacing them as they fail.

actually, according to nvidia, any gpu made after like october this year will no longer have the issue. who knows.

 

there really is no reason for us not to worry about our system especially if we have only a 1 year warranty. i know for sure i will be taking care of my laptop well and will see my laptop go a long way before dying, but nvidia decided to curse us with the defect and now we have a lifespan-crippled gpu that is going to die any time. and if it does die 1 day after my warranty my $2k laptop is as good as paperweight. now who is to be blamed for my dead laptop? is it me, who was stupid enough not to extend the warranty, even though the death of the laptop was due to NVIDIA'S FAULT for making a defective gpu? if nvidia did not produce the defect in the first place, and my laptop was used under the exact same conditions, my laptop would last me as long as the 3 years i spend in school(which was the reason i bought this laptop). i even thought spending so much on this laptop would mean i get better components and thus better lifespan of the laptop, but i guess i am VERY VERY WRONG NOW.

 

hey frozendarkness, where do you get the information bout the nvidia card being maufactured after october would be free of the soldering defects, are you sure bout the information?

 

no i'm not because the media still says the manufacturing process might still cause the tiny bubbles. Nvidia actually says that since August, they've been manufacturing them differently. I'm hardpressed ot find the specific press release, but there are tons of informaiton on this forum
