Recently I tried "modding" grub on my M1530 on which I'm triple booting Vista, Ubuntu and MediaDirect (this guide http://www.daryl.mu/2008/03/05/howto-triple-boot-dell-xps-m1330-with-vistaubuntu-and-media-direct/). Everything went well but I messed up GRUB and I've been told that the easiest option is to wipe the harddrive and start again. I hadn't really put anything on the laptop so it's not really that much of a bother.

But can anyone see any problems in wiping the harddrive? Any hidden dell stuff I should worry about?

Also any recommended programs for wiping the harddrvie?

    Thanks.

I've never done that method, I do no use MediaDirect so I just wiped the drive completely and said goodbye to it. If you have further questions, it is likely they were answered on that thread.

    Good luck.

What did you use to wipe your drive?

    Thanks by the way.

KillDisk and DBan work well and are free.

If you decide to wipe your drive, read all the info, instructions, warnings, etc, before use.

I used GParted...it's a pretty awesome little deal. It loads up a little mini Linux Distro and you can format and partition to your heart's desire.

I've fixed the problem. I deleted all the partitions on the drive and simply reinstalled everything. I've got Vista, Ubuntu and Media Direct all working flawlessly now. Thanks to the both of you for your help.
