I'm about to finalize my XPS 15

Is it worth $100 to upgrade to the GT 540M?

I keep hearing that going from 1GB to 2GB isn't worth it

I'm not much of a gamer, I do plan on editing some video, and playing blu-ray movies to my 46in LCD

I did not invest 100 in the blu-ray player because i can play them locally

You probably won't need the updated GFX card if you're not a gamer. Plus, if you ever do need more graphics power, you can overclock the 525M fairly easily.

You need to get the 1920x1080 display upgrade though. Don't get the XPS 15 with the standard 1366x768 display.

Dell uses a terrible-quality screen for the non-upgraded option, the B156XW01 LCD panel, and it's currently one of the worst 15" screens being sold right now. Washed out, terrible viewing angles, noticeable lack of contrast. It's a piece if junk, and the XPS 15 isn't worth spending money on unless you upgrade past this. The stock screen is worse quality than many budget laptop screens, and the 1366x768 resolution is useless for video editing and multitasking.

However, the B+RGLED 1920x1080 display offered as an upgrade is a B156HW01-V7 LCD panel, and it's currently the best quality 15" screen available in the sub-$1500 price range. Colors are extremely vibrant, and you get more virtual screen real estate because of the higher resolution.

There is a coupon code for the XPS15 that allows you to save $100. 932N$0ZCCHWZB9 , use it to make sure the screen upgrade fits into your budget.

If you are on a budget I would put the money towards the 1920x1080 B+RG screen, it's the most important upgrade for this machine, second for me would be the backlit keyboard :)
