Is that 3gb graphic card better than the 1gb 6770M or 1gb 6850M?

I am contemplating on getting either a XPS 17 or a HP dv7t. When i configure both machines to almost the same specs XPS becomes a little more expensive by about $120 but that comes with a 3gb video card compared to 1gb of HP dv7. I don't mind paying extra if it is worth for that extra 2gb of video memory. Also i do play games and watch movies and other multimedia stuff. I've also heard that XPS has a better build quality than HP dv7?
Don't know how much i am right on this assumptions but would like to know from experienced users or anyone with that knowledge.

I like the 55M with Optimus, I don't need a Hot Rod Battery Gobbling Monster all the time, But when I need it, it's there.

I don't know if the video card is shared with the memory or not. On the Dell page it doesn't mention anything about it being shared or otherwise. Is there a way to find out if it is an actual 3gb graphic card or shared? Pardon my ignorance here but if lets say it is not shared, would we still say 3gb is better than 1gb card. How high of a impact does that make?

The Dell installed version has 3gm dedicated, what is a waste and basically a marketing gimick.

I am 100% sure it is shared memory. Some manufacturers are still so *** to use marketing steps talking about shared memory as video memory of graphic chip.
