ok so i bought GTA IV the oher day and installed it on my laptop so i start running it and it had put restrictions on my specs -_- is there anyway i can turn these off i looked at a few sites that say you have to run it on the command line ive tried that but it wont work :|

i have a Dell XPS specs are in sig + i overclocked my dual nVidia 8700m GTs to
    650 core clock
    1100 Memory clock
    and 1600 shader clock

aswell is there anyway to OC my CPU?

    Thanks in advance :)

Well I've been trying to run GTA IV on my machine (specs below) and it STILL doesn't run properly I can only average a meager 15FPS. It's a poorly coded port that really needs a quad core with some serious power. So odds are no matter what you do it won't run right lol. This is the commandline option for the resrictions though:
    -norestrictions-Do not limit graphics settings
    nomemrestric-do not restrict memory

As for the overclocking I don't know anything about that to help lol

well i hear Dual Cores are having a hard time plus crappy porting from Rockstar which dosent support SLI leaves me with a meager 232 MB to play with currently i have it a
    1440x900
    Texture quality : Low
    Reflection :medium
    Water :high
    shadow : mediun
    texture filter : very high
    veiw : 1
    detail :100
    veichle density :100
    shadow density : 16
    and definition : on

and im running at 15-20 fps

though the games not SLI supported i might try turning it off as SLI is cpu hungry

its weird though i can run Fallout 3 top settings at 40+ FPS which is open enviroment and resi evil 5 top settings at 60 fps but this i can barely scrape 15-20 :(

You don't need to explain it to me lolz I get it, it's a crappy, crappy port. I'm getting 15fps and that's a joke and that's with the resolution @ 1280x720 and everything else more or less on medium. Meanwhile I can get 30FPS in Crysis... I don't know what else to tell you good luck with the game hopefully you'll get a playable framerate.

1GB texture memory should help you with getting better textures in this game. But I can see that the rest of the specs will just shoot that experience down.

Have you guys tried the update patch?

And yet you have an i7, and a GPU that is quite good--perhaps not 256-bit for 1080p resolutiuon, but with enough VRAM and power to give you a good HD 720P experience with this game.

Yeah, that is strange in my opinion.

Yeah I have to play in 720P to get a barely playable framerate, it says less about my computer and more about the crummy programming on behalf of rockstar.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-locked_loop

In your case the PLL generates a 200mhz reference clock which is multiplied by 11 to give you 2.2ghz.

If you tell the PLL to generate 250mhz you will get 2.75ghz. Which is a safe overclock and should not need any extra voltage.

Just take a look at the link I posted before if you want to find the PLL.

well apparently this is it for the Dell XPS m1730s : CY28547LFXC not to sure though i downloaded si-sandra and it didnt have the system clock generator tab on it :| then i heard something about setfsb which im not to keen on though as if you do it wrong you could fry the entire unit as your not just overclocking the CPU its the GPU, RAM everything :( but i think thats the number for my model hope this helps if not sorry :(

    No you wont fry anything.

Setfsb overclocks the FSB, which means only the ram and CPU are overclocked.

It's safe since you wont be increasing the voltage. Nothing will fry, just watch your CPU temp though.

2.7ghz would be fully safe, you wont have any problems as long as your CPU temp is under 85C (max).

Use intelburntest and ORTHOS for 10 mins to test if your CPU is stable (use ORTHOS first, then finish with intelburntest).

I use setfsb and I really push my frequency high, yet my notebook has no problems.

If you see the CPU temp get over 85C then you should change the thermal paste and clean out the dust.
Also you can try to undervolt and overclock at the same time. Just keep the voltage as low as possible without letting the CPU get unstable.
