Well my XPS 17 should be here in a week, hopefully. On youtube, there are some videos that people have posted showing how certain games run on their system.

Not sure if this has been done for the Dell users here or not, but how about a thread where you can post your system specs, what games you run and comment on the performance? I specifically wanted to ask how Operation Flashpoint: Red River performed on XPS.

I just figured it might be nice if we could have an organized thread where people could comment on the performance of some games on their laptops.

If this has already been done, then disregard... If not and you guys think this might be a good idea, then by all means, help out with this.

If I'm an idiot for thinking this would be a good thread, then again, disregard. :)

Very useful thread. :) Probably I will get mine l702x next week, so I will surely post results of any game I will launch.

Come on people, share your gaming performance impressions.

The only game I play is EQ2x, a free to play version of everquest 2. This game is very CPU dependent, I've tried playing with both the overclocked 525m and the HD3000. The difference is so small, I just use the HD 3000 because the fan is quieter.

edit: Been playing around more between the 525m and HD3000, game looks much better with the 525m after some tweaking.

Crysis is smooth at FHD and everything set to very high except shaders which I put on medium.

I have an older Studio XPS 16 (specs in signature). I play Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Starcraft 2, Left4Dead2, Heroes of Newerth, Team Fortress 2 (SO MANY 2's!), all at 1920x1080 with mostly high details, and I would say everything run acceptably well to very well. If I ever have problems running a game, I just turn down the shaders a bit... they always seem to kill this video card.

Ran it today and watched my frames with fraps. Observed 28-34 on average while outside in the wild, inside building would get me 50-60.

Everything set at high and shader at medium would get me around 40 on average with 61 the highest I observed.

Warcraft 3/Dota on 1080p, everything maxed. Frame rate maxes out at ~60 (capped)

lol, anyways 9 year old game. Intel HD 3000 can run it at 1080p at 60 fps, unless huge amount of things are going on.

Pretty impressive considering this is far from the best GPU on the market, no?

And Bob, I was going to say something about 60fps capped on a 10 year old game, but you get that at least. I cringe when I see people on Newegg reviewing a high-end GPU (say the 560TI equivalent and up?) and saying it gets 200fps in WOW...Glad to see you understand. Enjoy the machine :D

    Negative ghost-rider...

I'm loving it. The last of my new toys for it come in today. I need to post some pics of my desk and how I have it set up. I have it connected to a 24" Asus that I got on Newegg.

My Av-30 and my cooler come in for it today. I'm excited. :)

Anyone have trouble playing Tropico 3 on GT 540m? (No, I'm not stupid, and Intel HD3000 is not running it)

The game is not remotely playable on 1080p with everything low. The zooming/movement still lags hardcore on 1600x900 on low.

There must be something wrong with with my configuration or the driver/game.

Anyone has any experience with Tropico 3?

Hey there, I play allot of BC2 at the moment, i was just wondering if anyone
had any problems with the latest Dell/Nvidia 8.17.12.6830, A08 drivers?

Im using the older 267.21 drivers that came with the machine, after i first got the laptop i updated direct from Nvidia but that caused black flickering on BC2, just wondering if these news drivers do the same thing?

    Btw Ive got the GT540m.

    Thanks.

    Does anyone get this problem?
Im running on a XPS 16 and in the middle of a game in Bad Company 2 it will start stuttering and all the sounds will repeat themselves. I feel like its lag but IDK for sure because in the beginning im always fine but after awhile it starts going crazy. I set my clocks to 800/1000 to see if it is because the card is slowing down, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Please help!

When you say stuttering does its flicker black? If so rolling back to 267.21 drivers stops that. Other than that i cant help sorry.

Well in that case ignore what i said lol, I'm not that familiar was all the different systems. On the BC2 EA forums there's a few topics mentioning the game seems to be smoother with Nvidia cards.

I was looking last night to see if anyone had the same problems as you, some say realtek audio can cause issues with BC2. I haven't had those problems myself so could not comment. Also i read changing to DirectX 9 mode helps with many problems on BC2. Apparently BC2 was created leaning more towards console users thus its not the best Battlefield field release for PC compatibility. Other than that i really don't know, Id suggest checking the EA forums for BC2, lots of great advice there.

    Its old but:
    Guild Wars
    1366x768
all maxed, 4x antialiasing and HD textures in outposts (this option was on but i couldn't see much difference, maybe need FHD?)
constant 60fps even during last weekends big event

    That's on L502x i5-2410M, 2x4GB RAM Crucial, 2GB Nvidia GT540M
