Mainly League of Legends, I have an issue where if I minimise some games the game will crash. In LoL, this happens only ingame, where minimising or changing serious graphics settings will cause it to crash also.
I have researched this issue a fair bit, and also tried several solutions, but to no avail. I believe my graphics is to blame, as it contains the new nVidia optimus technology, so when minimising a game, the intel integrated graphics card will cause it to fail as it cannot run the game. I have tried forcing my computer to run the dedicated GPU constantly, but that didn't work.
I've never posted on this forum before, so if my specs haven't shown up in my signiture, here they are:
DELL XPS L502X (R2) - Intel Core i5 2410M - nVidia GT540M 2GB - 4GB DDR3 1066?mhz RAM - 500GB 7200rpm HDD - 1920x1080 RGBLED 15" - Backlit Keyboard - 2x USB 3.0
Hope I have made sense to you![]()

I played LoL pretty often on the xps 15.
I had this problem before but I resolved it and have yet crashed on me.
I got two workarounds for you.
But first tell me what Nvidia Drivers and Intel Drivers you are currently using.
Post version and the tell if it is from Dell or somewhere else. -
I am currently using the nvidia drivers, version 280.26 (downloaded from nvidia website.) For the Intel drivers, I can't be sure where I got them from, but the control panel says I am using version 8.15.10.2342.
I hope this helps, also, as a matter of interest, do you have any other problems with League of Legends?

Don't mix and match the custom graphic drivers. So you are using a Dell modified Intel driver with a normal Nvidia driver which is a no no.
I mean either both are modified or both are original.
The easy way is to uninstall Nvidia normal driver. Revert to the Dell's Nvidia Driver 268. Use the "clean" install option in customize as you install.
Re-add LoL main binary on control panel.
For me, I didn't get any more issue with LoL besides finding the actual meat to use the Nvidia card instead of making both the launcher and what ever to always use the nvidia card.
Ran it on 1080 Ultra except for shadows, set to medium, average 50 fps
I got it working just fine with the official 280 but Dell 268's is simpler easier to configure on your setup. -
Well if your getting only 50fps, I can tell that Dell's driver has worse performance (I know from benchmarks anyway). So i'm going to try and find an Intel driver, i'll let you know how it turns out.
-
Right, Official Intel drivers aren't supported for the L502x, so I have to stick with the Dell ones. I think i'll live with the crashing on minimise rather than losing the 15+ FPS that comes with 268.
-
Actually, official intel drivers does work on L502x.
To use the normal drivers requires a bit more involvement than simply double click, hit next and hope for the best.
For LoL, I really need 30 fps constant anyways, so 50 average is very good.
I haven't seen it dip below 50 though.
But since I locked it to not exceed 60 fps ... I wouldn't know or care how high it goes. -
I am in the same boat
everytime I want to alt+tab LoL it crashes.
the only fix were to downgrade drivers to the 268 drivers came from dell, but since the performance isnt great and most of games dont even work with the old drivers I had to upgrade to the latest ones 280.26.
got an l502x with an i3 and the gt525m a little overclocked.
since I was unable to afford the screen upgreade, I have the stock screen 1366x768, however I got the minidisplay to vga adapter and I play fine on a external lcd screen 1440x900 75hz while at home (I use also external keyboard/mouse if posible), about league of legends settings: same native external screen resolution and 75 hz,vsync off, frame cap to high, and everything else on very high except the shadows who are just on "high" setting.
when the game starts I have like 78 FPS at the shop with the other champions, at the teamfights it gets arround 65 fps, it is ok.
however the alt+tab crash still happening with the latest drivers, but I am not going to switch to the ancient drivers anymore.
I reported this bug to some nvidia technicians, since it was ok with the old drivers I dont think the fix will be difficult to implement, I hope they fix it soon, I keep refreshing the nvidia updates page for a new driver version -
aye... when you minimise some games it turns the nvidia card off, even though the graphics aren't technically being displayed the processes running in the background realise they no longer have the required resources and end up crashing.
this happened with the original dell nvidia drivers and still happens with the new nvidia drivers (i've not attempted to update the intel drivers as of yet - if it aint broke, don't fix it)
can live with not minimising games, it's not like I play them for extended periods of time. -
well, I didnt experienced any similar minimize/alt+tab issues with another games at the l502x, and I have more than 400 Gbytes on games at the laptop hdd.
also league of legends worked fine for me with the previus drivers (270 and newer are the ones wich crashes),I think it is just an issue with the newer drivers and league of legends. -
good news
, problem seems fixed with nvidia drivers version 285.62, happy alt+tabbing at full screen ^_^
