I'm gonna buy a laptop soon probably in a week or so, for college, and I'm thinking about getting the M1330.
I'm gonna game a little bit on the laptop, so I'm wondering if the m1330 is capable of running Counter Strike Source, and Call of Duty 4 on high settings and get decent framerates?
-
CS Source will probably run well on almost high settings
COD 4 might not run well on max settings...you would probably have to tone them down to somewhere above medium settings to get good framerates -
COD4 will run on Optimal Settings with the Resolution 1280*800 like a beast. -
Haha nice
Thanks for the replies guys
I really want to have a blu-ray drive on the m1330... but oh well.. i'll live -
CoD4 will run well on medium to low settings.

As an m1330 owner, I do kinda wish I got the m1530 instead, for thr Blu drive and superior GPU. The portability of the 13" is nice, but 15" isn't too big to stick in a backpack.
That said, the 8400m GS can be a perfectly capable GPU if you're fine dropping the graphics down a few notches on most games. -

if u'r saying end- september, u'd better order it soon...
est ship date for m1330/m1530 loaded is sept 4
see my signature for a good deal on m1330/m1530
(BTW, i think the 4lb m1330 is totally worth it if u dont game or want bluray.... though with the overheating problem = -
how do i find these sorts of deals in the uk? cheers

i dont understand, why do all american "college" students need laptops for? im sure you can do with an old one or wait for dell to come with the new xps range or whatever else.
the new 13" will probably have like a 9xxx GPU and be faster and maybe nicer looking, it will only be a few weeks wait until its out.
if you need it now, its still a good laptop but it will be old very soon, and why are you picking a m1330 if you want to play games, at least get a m1530.
dell rip you off on a blu ray player and i dont think its in the m1330 anyway and only the m1530? also, a 13" is not the way to watch blu ray films.
you can probably get a ps3 for the same price and have a blu ray player and console for the same price
Then you wont need your m1330 for games -

b)Montevina laptops fromd Dell wont be that cheap or have as many discounts as laptops now (see my m1330 deal on the bottm, dont think u can get that price in a month's time)
c) i like portability... not a huge gamer, and i can deal with games at low resolution/quality... not that much need for eye candy
d) bluray on m1530 = bluray player for TV... as u've said, u can get a PS3 at that price, but is it portable? and can ur PS3 burn BluRay? (albeit only 2x for m1530's bluray player, but still..)
e) i have 4 yr warranty on this thing...maybe sometime down the road when the machine dies, maybe i'll get the monitevina replacement.... or not...
f) im definitely not going/wanting to spend time configuring my laptop when i get it midway into the semester... right now i've spent close to 20 hours playing with my laptop, software, config and reinstalling when something wrong happens.... -
i go back to school on the 25th of august...
are they all out of stock or something? -
i want a thin and light notebook that can handle games like CSS and COD4 -
****, I just ordered a m1330 ... do you think the new 13" will be out within the 30 (or is it 20?) days I have to return it? -

I've played both games:
CS: High
CoD4: Medium
with my 8400 OC'd to 585/785 I can play CoD4 on high and FEAR on medium -
Is the ship date still Sept 4th? I go back to school on the 25th as well.
-
you overclocked the gpu??
doesnt the laptop have an overheating problem already? -

u can return ur laptops with no restocking fees/questions asked within that period, and get the new 13".. but i dont think dell would release it in september... probably october
keep delaying... now its 9/9 est....... get it delivered to your college, no choice there.... and spend like 20 hours configuring ur laptop to ur needs when u should be out playing!!! -
is the m1330 xps not out yet? i just saw it in stores here, yet some here are saying its not being shipped until sep4th.
is there some new model of the m1330 coming out on sept4? -
I installed FEAR on here today and it's pretty nice. You can run in native res w/ much of the effects turned down, but I opted to keep most of the default effects and switch the res down to 1088x612. This is in XP 64-bit, Vista performance may differ.
You can get most games running real nice as long as you don't mind turning down effects/detail, and aren't *that* anal about native res. -

dell's not giving any info on a new/refreshed XPS line.... -
One step to take to maintain good performance on high graphical games without sacrificing texture detail too much is to go to the Nvidia Control Panel->Custom Resolutions, and make '768x480'. It's a 16:10 resolution.
I know that sounds like a horribly low resolution, but it actually looks pretty nice on a 13" screen, I was VERY suprised myself. It'll give you great framerates in games like FEAR and COD4, and allow you to keep a lot of the graphics turned up and looking nice.
I know some people obsess about native res, and quite reasonably. However, I've come to realise that native res w/ horrible looking textures + mediocre framerates is no good, and I'd far prefer a lower resolution like the one above, and maintain 60fps minimum and maybe even some nicer looking textures. -
I play those games as well. In CS Source, you can play at native maxed out. In COD4, you play at low to med settings. COD4 in my opinion is much better than CS Source and much more fun to play. One game I found that brought the graphics card to its knees is Unreal Tournament 3. You have to play at pretty low settings in that game.

I just installed HL2 today and it runs at native res, graphics on high including HDR, w/ Vsync and Triple Buffer, constant 60fps never dropping
This is on XP64.
-
I've noticed that when playing HL2 on x64, there is a small notice that says "64 bit mode" or something similar.
Is there any difference between playing using an x86 or x64 operating system?
