HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO THE NVIDIA DRIVERS FOR OUR DELL XPS 3D & Non-3D L702X,L701x, Ect.. LAPTOPS! I have a 3GB GT555M.

My frame rates went from 69 FPS in SWTOR TO 109 FPS OH BABY!!!

Your results may very! Didn't have to mod these drivers whatsoever!

I can play Skyrim in 1920x1080 with quality all on Highest and get 18-28fps.

If I drop the resolution down to 1600x900 I can put it on Highest, I get 34-40fps. If I change the quality to Ultra, I get 20-28fps. That is quite a big improvement on what I was getting previously.

Is your BIOS the A14 web version or the A14 factory-installed one?

    Hello,

I bought my XPS 17 L702x a few months back. I did not do a clean install, but am really tired of these old video card drivers that Dell put out. If I were to install these OEM nVidia beta drivers, would it cause problems? Also could i just download and install like normal, or is there some special procedure?

    I have the 555M btw.

    Thank You!

That problem is the SOFTWARE not Nvidia or dell nor Intel. That would be a REG hack im sure you could find something about how to mod it to work the way you want it to.

Did you go from the old 280.xx generation of drivers or did you update from the Beta 290.36 to 290.53? I am using the 290.36 but have not had very good performance from my L702X with a 2720QM i7 quad, 8gb 1333 ram and the nvidia GT550M 1gb DDR3 card I am barely getting 40-50 FPS at lowest settings when there are no big grapics playing SWTOR.

A large player fight scene or PVP drops me to 22-30 FPS using the 290.36 drivers and using all the tips to lower your settings. Its odd because my same laptop will run circles around WOW and play Rift decently wow at 60-90FPS at high graphics settings and Rift at Medium settings with 50-60 FPS.

High graphic loads on those games only dip me 5-10 FPS lower on average but on SWTOR for some reason it just tanks the FPS even at the lowest end settings I wonder if this driver will fix some of that lower performance issues.

Is also lots to do with the way you configure your Nvidia drivers too. I installed one XPS with the 269.59, and my other on with the moded 290.36 and it installed both ways, this is greatness! I have had really good luck here!

LOVE my 3D XPS L702X and i hope everyone has better luck or greatness with the new driver release.

here is a post i started and will update as time goes if in time Nvidia drops our Hardware ID#'s

The old drivers used to work for VLC and other video softwares, it's definitely something they did with the drivers, i can make it work but if i restart my laptop it goes back to IGP and its frustrating having to tweak it again so it can work with the GPU.

can confirm that this update gives a few extra fps for the 525m. I managed a cool 5-10 fps boost in skyrim on the same settings, and a slighlty less but still noticeable 3 fps in DXHR. valve games all run the same (amazingly) so I can't really test those

Anyone installed this driver then tried to instal the Realtek sound driver? I can't get the sound to work unless I remove the realtek sound driver..

Isn't this built in sound by Realtek? I'm not sure why the nvidia driver is allowing me to receive sound.

(I know the nvidia driver instals the nvidia hd audio driver but I'm not sure why and why it allows me to receive sound).

edit: you need to download the very latest realtek driver not the "recommended" one by dell (there are 2 drivers on the dell website under audio). It'll then work fine.

I start "Nvidia Inspector" and click on the tools icon at driver version, search for the VLC profile and at "Enable application for optimus" I change it from SHRIM_RENDERING_MODE_USER_EDITABLE to SHRIM_RENDERING_MODE_USER_ENABLE. Not sure if what you say can be done but if yes that would be awesome.

Check your Windows 7 user profiles. You may find that you now have a new user profile, entitled UpdatusUser.

UpdatusUser has a whole directory tree, just as other user profiles would. Apparently this is caused by some bizarre routine in the Nvidia update application.

That's as clear as mud. Do you mean that you chose one of the downloads from the Dell site, or that you obtained a later Realtek update from somewhere other than Dell? (e.g. the one offered by Windows Update?)

There are 2 realtek audio drivers on the dell website.

You don't download the recommended one

You download the newer version that Dell have added.

Their both on the same dell webpage under drivers for the XPS 17 L702x

(There is a newer version on Realteks website but I didn't download)

I didn't see the audio driver by realtek being offered, only the ethernet driver (which was older than the one offered by Dell).

But it isn't always as black and white as that.

Here's a tip: Don't uninstall Dell's old Realtek first. Keep it there and install the official Realtek on top. I have working audio and Maxx simultaneously!

For some odd reason after installing these new beta drivers, SCiII fps slowed to a crawl with my 420m. Before I "updated" to this version, I was averaging 45-60 fps on medium setting. After the update, it dropped to 10-15fps. Also everything else seemed laggy such as opening menus. Anyone else experience this? So strange...

295.51 runs great for me on TOR, but I cannot play skyrim anymore. Ever since I downloaded the new driver, the game will not even boot. Anyone else have this problem, I know that at least one more l702x user has has this problem.

Well the 295.51 installed on my A16 ( upgraded from A14) BIOS non 3d L702x. However I lost optimus switching which I discovered by loading a few games which picked up the internal Intel HD3000 and failed to recognise the GT555m even when manually trying to force it to use the Nvidia card. So I rolled back to the Dell supplied Nvidia driver and all is now working fine. Any ideas why the Nvidia update would cause this ?

Installed nvidia 290.53 onto my 3d l702X (A14 factory bios) and so far everything is good. I will use this driver for a while and if okay (which i'm sure it will be) will then download/install latest driver.

I'm well stoked as I can now buy an external "BenQ 3d lightboost" monitor which needed the newer driver for the 'displayport' interface support.

Good work DyingJedi! If it wasn't for Guy's like you many of us would still be (and still are) using Dell's outdated drivers for who knows how long!
