My XPS 12 (2013 model) is messed up, and their support can't fix it, so they are offering me an upgrade. I can choose between the new XPS 12 or the XPS 13.
I'm going to go with the XPS 13 because I don't like the idea of downgrading performance. I LOVE the XPS 12 and it's screen flip action, but I don't think I will like the fact that it's not actually attached.
Looking forward to the QHD+ touchscreen.
After 1 year of frustration dealing with dell's tech support, it was the @dellcarespro team that really came through for me. I tried phone support multiple times, live chat, @DellCares and it was just a bunch of dead ends until I tweeted @dellcarespro. They rock.
- I purchased 2 year complete care warranty when I bought it July 2013.
- In Nov 2014, it started being very sluggish. I ran the diagnostics and hard drive test failed.
- Dec 2014 Support advised me to do a clean install of windows. They tech told me to completely delete all partitions and format fresh.
- Jan 2015 When I went to reinstall windows, I had no key. Support sent me a Win 8.1 USB stick that apparently bypassed the need for a serial input.
- Feb 2015 I started using a Macbook Pro and my XPS 12 became a paperweight. Lost the Win 8.1 USB key.
- April 2015 Found the Win 8.1 USB stick. (They wouldn't send me a new one heh) but it kept asking me for a key when trying to install windows. Support was dumbfounded.
- May 2015 @DellCaresPro figure out this was because since I followed the directions of the technician, it deleted the partition that stored they license data.
- July 2015 @DellCares support got back to me finally and told me that they could not give me a key.
- Sept 2015 @DellCaresPro said even though my complete care warranty was now expired, they would send me a new motherboard, because all keys are linked to the motherboards.
- October 2015 Technician came to my house with the motherboard, took it apart to find out that dell did not include the proper heatsink, she put the case back on in a rush and left.
- Nov 2015 New in home tech came with proper motherboard and heatsink, realized the last tech had stripped the screws, and setup a return order for dell to fix it at the warehouse.
- Dec 2015 They just called me and told me that they no longer handle this model of XPS 12 and offered to upgrade me to the new XPS 12 or the XPS 13
Phew, what a saga dealing with this over the last 18 months ... comedy of errors. I'm super happy with the final result though. I'm going to be trying to only use @dellcarespro from now on.

The Dell XPS 13 is a great choice. It's literally one of the best laptops that Dell ahs ever made, and easily a contender for Laptop of the Year for 2015.
On a related note, get the 1080p version, and not the 1800p touchscreen version.
1) The 1080p version is a matte finish (1800p is glossy).
2) The 1080p version is 0.3lb lighter.
3) The 1080p is $300 cheaper than a similarly-configured 1800p version.
4) The 1080p version gets 50% better battery life than the 1800p version. (6hrs vs 9hrs)
5) The 1080p version will not suffer from Windows DPI scaling issues as much as the 1800p version.
Getting upgraded from a Dell XPS 12 (2013) to new Dell XPS 13 Skylake...I'm happy.
