If you had the choice to choose either a Screen that has yellow ghosting, or a screen that has a lower resolution - which one would u go for?

    Well I ordered a dell notebook with a 720p screen I believe that would be somewhere around 1330 x 780 - however I got a notebook with a 1600x900 screen.

The screen however has quite some yellow ghosting, which I can see for example when my charackter heals herself in oblivion. Or during fast youtube videos - especially changes between black and white, the white will have a yellow ghost following it..

Anyways, I believe if I want to get it replaced they will but the 720p screen inside.
So what are your recommendations? the ghosting is quite annoying..
would I notice a huge difference between the old and the new resolution?

    What would you do?

thanks for your opinions guys, they are as always highly appreciated.

    Cheers

Well, clearly since this ghosting problem is bothering you, you should switch to the lower resolution screen (which IMO isn't really THAT low of a resolution). Also by the sounds of it, you don't really need those extra pixels.

Ghosting is a problem. Getting 900p when you paid for 720p is not a problem; it's a lucky mistake on Dell's part. If you get them to replace your display and they give you a fully functional 720p (1366x768, for the record), then you are getting exactly what you paid for.

    Thanks a lot guys,
Another thing I was wondering about if I will notice a quality loss in lets say for example Oblivion when playing in 1366x768 instead of 1600x900.
Will the game look less good?

The upsite would of course be around 17% faster frame rate if I am correct.

You won't really notice a much of a decrease in quality as long as you are using the monitor's native resolution. And yes, it would be quicker (Don't know where you got the 17% from though).

Some guys in a different forum told me it would be 15-20 % Quicker, because the Video Card would have to render less pixels.

Oblivion looks great at 720p on my Studio 15.

It will certainly run faster. How much faster depends on your game settings but at max details 20% performance difference between 1366x768 and 1600x900 seems reasonable. Could be even more if you max out AA and AF. So yes, the game will run faster, most games will.

Sweet, so there is no loss except for less browsing space/desktop space ?

I will call dell tomorrow then, and tell them that the wrong display they set in my notebook has started to show heavy ghosting.

    - They also promised me a laptop bag because of the trouble I have gone through so far, but I never go it. Should I also ask them about it?

That's right. And definitely ask them about it or even suggest something else if you don't really need a laptop bag. Good luck :)

    The Dell guy just left.

I have so far no more ghosting, but again 1600x900 !! =_=
Oh well! I am so annoyed by this issue, I will just try to play in this resolution...
