hi guys, dont really post a lot here really but i'm stuck about buying a laptop, i'm currently on a 2ghz desktop, and it's more or less dying. so it's time to change.

dell have qouted me £860 on this XPS 1530.

    -Base Intel® Core(tm) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 6 MB L2 cache)
    - Memory 4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce(tm) Go 8600M GT with 256MB dedicated graphic memory
    >>> Hard Drive 500GB Serial ATA (5400RPM) Hard Drive
Primary Battery Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)
    LCD 15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife(tm)

obviously there's rumours about the refresh, but i would like a laptop quite soon, as it's festive season and i've just been made redundant so i have money to burn.......... although i really would not like to spend more than £860.

is this a good deal or should i wait / buy another make?

Its not that good of a deal.

You can go to HP, and get a dv5t with a T9400 Centrino 2, and a GeForce 9600M GT for 100 less w/o shipping and tax.

i've looked at the HDX is it?? 16 inch laptop from HP, but it comes with a 2.2ghz dual core, but the 512mb 9600 GT, but heard that was DDR2 RAM,

    would a 2.2ghz with 512 9600 beat a 2.5 with the 9600?

The HDX and the dv5t are 2 different laptops.

also don't waste your time with a generic PC from mycizmo, they don't have any class. The XPS is a decent rig, but I would go with the dv5t.

Are you honestly trying to say the dv5t or the hdx has class? The cx15 looks much more impressive than either of those two. Though in fairness you did buy an m15x so your opinion on appearances has little credibility at best.

Anyway I was going from a performance point of view, the best gfx card either of those can support is a 9600m gt which is barely an improvement on the 1530's weak card. That's why I suggested the cizmo.

First of all, the m15x is the nicest looking laptop on the market, there for my credibility is actually grown.

Second I owed the cx15, for a whole week before the generic looks of it drove me to send it back, plain, dull, cheap!

I don't prefer to but the knock-offs, I like the real thing.

And finally, other than the looks, the reason I chose the m15x is summed up in 2 words: Smart Bay. I can throw an n ever, and switch it out extra 320 hdd in there whenever, and switch it out for a 2nd 6 cell battery, that gives me enough battery life to get me threw all my classes at school everyday, without bringing a charger with me. And as seeing I'm going for an A.A.S in IT, a computer is needed.

So I get a laptop that runs all day, that looks 10 times better, hows my credibility now?

You like the looks of the m15x, good for you. It just doesn't do it for me. I think with the ripley it looks like a square box, but hey thats just me. If we all thought the same I suppose the world would be a very boring place.

I was serioulsly considering getting one of them, before I bought my current, but the negative posts in the alienware forum put me off buying one. I suppose you were lucky and got one of the good ones.

actually, I haven't gotten it yet, perhaps this week. And yes, there have been problems with the earlier m15x, but now most of the problems have been fixed.

@Steveninspokane: He is in United Kinndom. That is the US website.

Oh, im sorry. I didnt know that HP in United Kingdom doesnt have customization... The closest thing i found was the dv5-1011ea (FN646EA) listed on THIS page. It is a little more money... But has a better graphics card. Although, the CPU is not as good. But the 8600M in the Dell you found, could possibly be defective as all other 8 Series, which causes the GPU to fail. The 9600M in the HP, is not defective. So, i personally think its worth the extra money. Your choice. :)

Yes, that is a pretty nice deal... The CPU is better.

But again, it has an 8 Series GPU, which could put the computer at risk. WHen paying a littkle extra for a 9 Series will save in the long run. ;)

    Thanks for the info. :)

The 9x series GPUs don't come up on the Outlet Site (well at least none have in the time I've been looking).

I'll keep my fingers crossed that my GPU doesn't die, but if it does I'll use my warranty. I'm guessing that in time, should I experience probs with the GPU, Dell will replace with a different card - if they themselves are experiencing too many failures with the 8x series.
