Hi guys,
Im excited to say I've finally got the m1330
I'll upload a quick review/ pics after a few hours
one thing though:
I think I might have gotten one w/ an issue on the side. I've seen this in many m1330 though, would like to ask if I should 'return' because of this:

Try to click it in. It may just pop back into place. It looks like the top XPS plastic may be up.

is that advisable?

Congrats and good luck with whatever you decide to do

aw jeez. i'm worried. i occasionally hear this high pitched sound from where the headphone jack is.
Is this the infamous cpu whine?
what can i do to prevent it? -
No the CPU whine is located rear left. Give it a bit...let the system break in .... And sit a normal distance away.
I picture you with the Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass 2 inches from the system. -
WorkinProgress Notebook Evangelist
hahah. I'm practically doing that, except i don't have a magnifying glass.
So you don't think its cpu whine? -
NO not in that location. If you put your ear to the rear left of the bottom and here a morse code type squeal...thats it...which would surprise me as they sorted that out.
-

i hear a morse code squeal but its strongest in the front, but its still like a squeal. I can hear it in the back too, but its more faint

its the same noise as this:

EDIT: IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THIS NVM, IT SOUNDS LIKE A FLAT HIGH PITCHED TONE. -
Theres also this southbridge whine that comes from the bottom right of the laptop, right around the express slot
could be that whine.. -
WorkinProgress Notebook Evangelist
omg wow. I hear it in all places... I hear it near the cpu (kinda faint) near the express slot (louder) and the headphone plugs (loudest)
this is beyond messed up... -

just called xps rep and he says it might be an hdd issue.
so far it seems like he's right. I tried diagnostic -
its not an HDD issue, I am getting the same whine with the hard drive that came with the laptop, and with the new 7.2k HD I put in.
-
WorkinProgress Notebook Evangelist
dang. I was hoping it was. He's already sending a new hd to me.
It actually doesn't sound like the video i put up ealier, it now just sounds like a straight high pitched tone that comes in an out occasionally.
anyways...
enjoying your m1330? sickZ? lol -
I love the laptop WorkinProgress, I just came back home and the laptop is not whining. I've been leaving the laptop on since I recieved it so maybe it broke in, but no whine anymore!! At least for now, but yeah the laptop just fliiiiiiies with 4GB memory and the 200GB 7.2k HD.

awesome!
The sound get weaker on mines too but its still a light tone.
I'm having an issue w/ getting online though. do you think its a vista thing? -
Mine didn't come with any whine at all... Or maybe I just don't hear it.
-
maybe the computer is so happy its singing?

if you don't notice it ckthepilot, try not to look for it, if you notice any sounds it might worry you too much.
lol, I wish mtv.
Btw, if all goes well, I'll post pics + minireview in a few days! -
I think the center control panel (black plastic panel with media and power buttons) is screwed up in most M1330s, Check out my first impressions thread for similar problems. I didnt return it because rest of the notebook was pretty good.
No CPU whine, at least not audible from a normal working distance. But if I press my ear against the left side of the keyboard, I can hear a faint whine, but that is nothing compared to my previous whiny M1210.

thats good. I hope the hdd change will get rid of the sound... I was able to fix the control panel quite well. Ill post more pics and review later

I just realized something. When I go 'power saving' mode, the high pitched sound stops. high performance mode has the high pitched tone.
GOD damn, I hope this isn't cpu whine.
Got It - M1330
