GRRRRRRRRRRRR I'm SOO MAD at dell right now. I waited 3 weeks to get this thing shipped, and it finally comes and I open the box so excited...
The first thing I notice is the extension on the battery is cracked and about to fall off. Great. Then I notice I didn't get my $70 gift card but I don't know how I'm supposed to get that anyway so w/e I'll call them.
Then the final thing. The whole computer is WARPED. WTF!?! It's curved upward on the top all the way across. This is what was forcing the bottom of the computer downwards and what cracked the battery. ARGHHG!>!>
I am on the phone right now. It's going to be a big pain for me to get this replaced since I am at work from 5 am - 6 pm every day. Has this happened to anyone else's 1530?

That sounds like an unusual case to me. Since it's brand new, they should send a replacement, but likely it will be a refurb.
I'd just return it, demand your full money back, and just order again. -
eh idk he said brand new like 100 times so im thinking itll be that. we'll see when it comes in. just soooo frustrating.
-
Dell will ALWAYS ship a refurb, even when the notebook is DOA. Great way to rip off customers in my opinion.
Just return and reorder. Yes, it is a pain...but... -
Holy crap dude, that sucks!! I'm sorry to hear of your troubles.
If I were you, I'd call and tell them what's up. Demand compensation, the order to be expedited, and order a new one. -
that must be a pretty extreme warp
My m1330 was warped, but I could flatten it out without much trouble -
I'd be pissed.....def. request some type of upgrade or something
-
I just don't see how a whole laptop could be warped. Pictures, please?
Also, PBNation FTW!! -
-
And on the back you can see how the screen tries to go flat but the main part of the laptop is angled upward. Also you can kinda see the crack on the battery, right where the extension starts.

btw, gift card comes 4-6 weeks after your order's been shipped (read the laptop specs that were sent to your email when u order), because you might return the system but keep the GC
i agree with return the system and reorder..... no restocking fees, just more hassles -
main problem with return and reorder is the extra 2-3 weeks it will take for them to 'build' it for me and send it again. With the exchange my replacement is in the mail tomorrow.

Goodness, sorry for what happened with your 1530!
I'm with the others, if you want to avoid the refurb...Return it, and reorder....
Or, you can always call and see if they will resolve this for you..
Good luck, and keep us all advised

Dell policy.
EDIT: I do also remember reading in the Dell policy, when I bought my new laptop, that Dell reserves the right to send either new or refurbished replacement units at their discretion. I'll search for that and see if I can find it. -
That's after the 21 day policy, isn't it?
And if it isn't, it's clearly a loophole. Send barebone, receive barebone, send refurb; rinse and repeat. Speak with supervisor, be pissed, BBB, etc. -
Yes, you actually can potentially continue to request returns until Montevina or the new XPS refreshes come out. If you are that competent.
In my experience, I had much more warping problems as I had the keyboard problem, the whole notebook was not level being placed on a flat surface, the bottom cover for ram/processor was also not screwed on properly and actually exposed some of the RAM that was inside. The hinges also kinda stuck out and the cd drive was the loudest ever.
I requested replacement immediately and got it brand new. Dell puts a colored sticker on the boxes indicating that it is a refurb. At the time I was going through that, Greg also said that it was his experience that Dell gives out refurbs for replacements within 21 days, but for me it is certainly not the case and if it was... it'd be quite a shocker. -
