My XPS 1530's adapter came with a plug that looks like this:

    / \
    ǀ

Does it mean it's grounded or I should get a replacement?

I get the "tingle" sensation at home, but not at work, so I guess that I have poor grounding at home... if it's so, can I solve it with a different adapter, or the only choice is to get proper grounding at home?

btw, the adapter does not have the "square inside a square" drawing, which I bealieve means "grounded".

The "tingle" turns to "shock" if I don't wear shoes... it's beyond annoying...

    Thanks.

the lower-middle plug should be the ground connection.

If it's 3 prong it's grounded... and the issue isn't the adapter but the grounding on the outlet. Have you tried another outlet at home? Are you plugged into a surge protector that does not have a ground plug?

^^^ I've read that apparently they have some inner grounding problem...like inside the lappy.

Either way yeah 3 plugs means it's grounded that 3'rd one is the ground

I believe the more powerful laptops come with the 3 prong and the less powerful come with the 2 prong ... at least here in the USA.

All of the Dell 60w power adapters I have seen are 2 prong, and the 90w adapters are 3 prong.

I got a true three prong but I thought some people were saying they got ones that looked like three prong but they really weren't. Unplug your power cable from the brick and make sure it really has three metal connectors at that connection.

It has three metal connectors, it's a clover-like plug that goes in the brick.

I tried another outlet, and it's the same. No surge protector, straight to the wall.

I live in an old house, so it could be possible that it doesn't have proper grounding.
Would I solve this using a surge protector or something else? some kind of adapter?

    Thanks for your replies!

All you can do is call Dell and tell them about your problem ... they should send you another adapter. Before they were sending out 2 prong adapter for the Dell XPS1530 but after a while so much people complaint about the stink sensation... so they've decided to send out the 3 prong adapter and everything is going well. Mine I have a 3 prong adapter and I never feel anything stink sensation from the lap, so I think it's the adapter's issue try to call them and they will send you another adapter for sure ;)
