    Hello Guys and Gals,

Many times I have seen posts on how to do a proper installation of the ATi Catalyst Driver on your Dell Computer.

I am preparing a Step by Step Guide with Snaps on installation of ATi Catalyst package and its components.

    Pre-Requisites:

Wish ATi made it an AIO package but as its not, we need all these files to install the driver properly

ATi Mobilty Catalyst 10.6 : Includes CCC and Device Driver

HydraVision Package : Multi Virtual Display Support, At last it works

Avivo™ Package : Package Includes: Encoder, Parental Control, Visual C++ Patch, Avivo Video Converter

    Download from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ATi Catalyst 10.6 : Desktop version, Needed to install HDMI Driver

ATi Application Profiles : Enhances particular games performance

    Download from http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Driver Sweeper : Optional, need to be used if ATi Uninstaller does remove all its components.

Step 1: Before you start the installation verify the version installed on your system. Click Start and type Device Manager and check the properties of your GPU in Display Adapters.

Step 2: Go to Programs and Features in Control Panel and click on change for ATi Catalyst Install Manager. On that window click on Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software and click Next. Go threw the process and it will completely remove ATI Catalyst from your system. At the end it will ask for a restart so just click Yes.

Step 3: After you restart the computer check Device Manager again. As you can see below this one is a Generic Driver from Microsoft so we dont need to run Driver Sweeper in order to remove the remaining components.

Step 4: These are the four files needed to install all the ATi Catalyst Components. Actually one is missing, Avivo package because this file was missing in AMD server. Its is an optional package so when its available online you can install it the same way we will install these files.

Step 5: Start the installation of ATI Mobility Catalyst 10.6 (10-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe). As you do a Custom install you will see that it will only install CCC and Display Driver. Go threw the process and complete the installation. Restart is not required and it doesnt even ask for it. Dont start Catalyst Control Center Yet. After all the four files are installed a restart is required, after the restart you can start the CCC application.

Step 6: Start the installation of HydraVision Package (10-6_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_hydravision.exe). On custom install you will see check on HydraVision. Click Next and install it.

Step 7: Start the installation of Desktop ATi Catalyst 10.6 (10-6_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_enu.exe) as it consist HDMI Driver. On the custom install uncheck the ones you see below and it will install HDMI Driver.

Step 8: Start the installation of Application Profiles (10-6_aticatalyst_appprofiles.exe) and Install it. It will automatically configure CCC's 3D settings according to a particular game when launched. Restart the computer after its installation.

Step 9: Now its time to verify that the driver is properly installed. Check Device Manager and Catalyst Control Center for the version updated to 8.741. Atlast the HydraVision package works as you see the HydraVision Tab on the top of CCC.

Optional Step: If after step 2 of doing the Express uninstall of ALL ATI Software and restarting the computer you dont see it reverting to the Generic Driver. You can use Driver Sweeper and remove the remaining components.

Thanks for this, but what are the benefits of installing the desktop version?

I installed 10.6 Mobility version today and they seem fine. Is it just for the HDMI support?

    Will do all this later!

I wonder if this will help improve my synthetic benchmarks. Not too worried, but I may try this when I get back from vacation.

It should but a minor change. As you have the 5730 card you might expect better results as most enhancements are for 5000 series card. The main feature of this driver is Flash 10.1 Hardware Acceleration support for better video performance.

Sure do that. Should I create this thread on the Gaming (Software and Graphics Cards) also as other laptops also have ATi cards. Any inputs ;)

I don't think you will be able to "duplicate" your thread on another part of the forum. You might be able to link it (into a similar existing thread, or have this thread moved. : )

Hmmm, the catalyst icon has dissapeared now. After I installed the new drivers, I was playing TF2 when it randomly BSOD'd, then when it rebooted. When it rebooted, the icon was gone and when I try to open catalyst through the start menu, it doesn't work. I looked in task manager and it said that it was running in the background so.... I'm kinda confused.

I'll try rebooting later when I go to sleep and then I'll repost later.

    I appreciate the write-up.

While I'm still using .5, I was able, with some helpful advice from other forum members, to get ATI's software stable and with HDMI audio working, on my 1640.

The basic procedure is to install the mobility 4670 drivers and CCC from ATI, then to install the RealTek HDMI Audio drivers. At that point, the only thing left to do for my particular setup is to remove the overscan/underscan of my HDMI-connected LCD in CCC.

If anyone has a good reason to update (or to not update) to .6, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

I think I will just leave it here. Thanx for the policy update :p

Did a reboot help? You might wanna try installing after cleaning all the files with Driver Sweeper.

Its gr8 that 10.5 is working fine for you. You will find all the updates done on this driver here. On the HDMI part I cant comment much, but I will provide you the version installed by Catalyst so you can verify it. In Device manager check under Sound, video and game controllers: Ati High Definition Audio Device, Driver Date: 06-05-2010, Driver Version: 7.11.0.7706. Hope this helps :)

Use ATI CrossFireX™ Application Profiles. it has profiles for single card config also.

Bro, Ati doesnt provide ATi Mobility Catalyst 10.6 for WinXP 32Bits. Ati site asks to contact Vendor. Which laptop and card you use?? i will try research more on this.

I think the best you can do is MOD the drivers.
Download ATi Catalyst 10.6: Desktop version from here. Then use Mobility Modder to Modify the driver. Then install it. Lemme know if it works or not?? Thanx

I dont have one at this point, I will try to search one.

Yes it would be fine. Hydravision is optional but HDMI Driver will help the computer to communicate with the HDMI cable. So the choice is yours.

Nope. so far I don't have the icon on the system tray. I might try to reinstall catalyst on its own just in case that helps. I was hoping that a reboot would help, has anyone else had this problem?

Edit: Just finshed the reinstall and it WORKS! I'm satisfied now.
