To my surprise I discovered today that Avivo Video Converter and AMD Stream do not officially support the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670.

This is how to get them both working and convert your videos without any macro blocking:

    1) Download Avivo Video Converter (link is the same for Vista, Win7 32-bit and 64-bit)

    2) Run the setup file, extract the driver and then cancel setup

    3) Navigate to 'C:\ATI\Support\9-X_vista32-64_xcode\Packages\Apps'

    4) For 32-bit double click on AVIVO and then AVIVO.msi or for 64-bit double click on AVIVO64 and then AVIVO64.msi

    5) Download and install CyberLink MediaShow Espresso v5.0.0515

    6) Covert your videos at super speeds with greatly reduced CPU usage by taking advantage AMD Stream

Using Avivo video converter itself (accessed via CCC wizard basic) to convert videos is not advisable due to bugs and very poor quality video output with macro blocking.

Thanks for posting! I'll have to try this out sometime. I wonder what other programs use this too. I've been using ConvertXToDVD, but I don't think they use it.

No I think the only video conversion tools which take advantage of AMD Stream currently are Avivo Video Converter and CyberLink MediaShow Espresso.

I will update this post if I find any more.

Here's a good review of ATI Stream vs. nVidia CUDA:

I thought the AVIVO HD used Stream tech to handle video decoding.

    http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/...i-radeon-4670-comes-to-the-studio-xps-16.aspx

Says that the mobility 4670 does use Stream tech. (Stream allows Windows 7 or other programs to use the GPU for processing..).

I know ATI has the beta win 7 drivers which include the catalyst suite 9.9 which gave Vista 64 and Win 7 64 stream capabilities and and Avivo Video Converter...

The Avivo Video Converter at the time of posting was absolutely awful at converting video. The output quality was terrible and something was obviously broken in the software. Many reviews also stated this major issue.

Using CyberLink MediaShow Espresso plus Stream you can get amazing quality and conversion speed.

I had downloaded the trial version and on Vista 64 SP2 it just kept crashing as I'd start it up... (tried it on my desktop). Once my laptop arrives I'm going to try it on that.

I plan on using the mobility modder and using the newest 4670 drivers/cat suite/avivo video converter (try it anyhow, will use media show most likely).

From what I've read the mobility 4670 fully supports stream/avt and the new windows 7 transcoder it's just Dell that neutered the drivers. Using the desktop drivers with mobility modder should fix that issue.
