The 1647 + 5730 combo has been out in US/Canada since the 6th. IIRC this has already been discussed in several threads :p

    RGB LED> I5 OR i7> 5730 ATI
Who cares about the processor or the gpu as long as the omputer has the RGB screen.

STILL waiting for it here in the UK! We don't one of the 4670's masquerading under the 565v label! Give us the real deal!

Unfortunately, that is no longer an option :( . Also, there is no reason to dwell over it, as it doesn't look like it's coming back.

Fortunately, Dell uses LG (the best) panels in the XPS16, so even the WLED monitors are still very high quality, even if they don't have the same color gamut that the RGBLEDs do.

I have a colorimeter, the EyeOne DisplayLT, and have done measurements on the 900+ WLED display. I have around 230nits of brightness (at 80%), a 630:1 contrast ratio, and about an 85% sRGB gamut (my software doesn't measuere AdobeRGB, but it'd be lower). All of which are well above average for a laptop display. Color temp out of the factory is over 9500k, which is super high, but a quick calibration fixes that issue. Besides, the RGBLED is likely set the same way before calibratoin.

Plus, the WLED doesn't have the excessive power draw that the RGBs have, which helps with the (now) mostly fixed throttling issue.

Can you throw your profile my way? I have the 1080p but I'm dead tired of blue tintedness.

I can't promise that it'll work for you, different monitors and everything. You're welcome to try it out though, it can't be worse than 9500k, lol. :)

You'll just have to remove the .txt at the end of the file name, it wouldn't let me upload anything with .icc....

Anyone know if the palm rest on this comp would be much cooler than the 1645? and if I could exchange it for this model?

I'm thinking about getting this laptop and seen all the high praises for the screen but I don't see an RGBLED option though it advertises it. This is what I see.

Choose RGBLED for 100% color gamut, 16.9 aspect ratio and full 1080p.
HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1600x900) W/2.0 MP, XPS 1647 [Included in Price]
    Edge-to-Edge FHD Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP [add $75.00 or $2.00/month-1]

    Is that option gone?

It isn't an option in US and Canada anymore sadly. I can vouch for the 1080p WLED being an eminently suitable laptop display, if that helps you make your choice.

A matter of opinion. My opinion is "what good is a laptop with powerful components if they throttle and therefore don't work as expected?" I would guess an i5 + 5730 wouldn't have throttling issues.

Ah ok thanks, I'm currently trying to decide between this and a Envy 14 (which currently has also lost its top display which utilizes Radiance) so either way I'll be without the top display something I'm sure I can manage without and it gives me an excuse not to spend that extra cash
