Hey all, I've just picked up an XPS M1710 off the outlet cheap - been waiting for the 8800m to replace my ageing XPS 2 but not keen on the released images of the XPS. I'm still on the fence whether to keep it or not, although I managed to pick it up for a good price one of the factors is I can't help but feel I'm paying for old technology.

The Toshiba X200 is tempting me, mainly for its HD DVD drive but looking over the rest of the machine I'd prefer to stick with the Dell. Which leads me to the question, can I fit an HD DVD drive to the XPS M1710? I know there is the 360 drive (which I have) but this is not very convenient due to the size and power requirements. I'm not sure what internal requirements are needed for HD DVD, I initially assumed there would need to be some HDCP hardware but I've noticed some notebooks being upgraded to HD DVD without any seeming change in the rest of the hardware.

I realise this may well be a dead end, I can't even find the drives anywhere for sale but if anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate them.

    Thanks,
    John

According to my information Dell doesn't support HD DVD but Blue ray.

I'm not looking to buy the drive from Dell, I have the machine already - if anything if the machine supports Blu-ray it should work fine with an HD DVD drive fitted but would like some confirmation before going ahead.
