    Hey,

I am using the DELL XPS L702X and have been for a few months now. The laptop has been great, I have experienced almost no issues at all, apart from one. I am using my laptop to watch movies on my tv via the HDMI output. On my old laptop I was able to fully close the lid without the laptop taking any action. On the dell laptop when I close the lid the video feed to the TV stops and the sound is output by the laptop. Can anyone else tell me what happens when they close the laptop lid whilst playing a movie via HDMI output?

When I do watch a movie, with the laptop lid slightly open, I notice tearing on the screen in fast motion scenes which can become irritating! This is happening across the middle and the bottom on the screen. Assume this is a vsync issue however I cannot find the option to change to resolve it.

To fix both issues I have updated the latest BIOS and updated to the latest gfx from nvidia website, I have tried beta and non beta. I have tried a couple of different HDMI cables and ports on the TV. I have even tried a different tv and I am still getting the same issue!

    Thanks
    Michael

Under your power settings, what is the computer set to do when you close the lid? The default is sleep, did you change that?

Yup that has already been set. The laptop does not turn off when I close the lid, the video stops being transferred to the TV and the sound comes from the laptop.

Under the "When I close the lid" option I have Do nothing set for both Battery and Plugged in power modes

In order to prevent this, you have to change TV to be the "primary" monitor and don't choose the "extend" option. Once this is done, the laptop screen should go black. You should now be able to close the laptop lid.

This actually turns off the laptop screen and closing the lid now has no effect on the HDMI output.

For the sound issue, you're going to have to set the HDMI sound settings in Windows to primary.

    Hope that helps.
