So I decided to finally hook up my 1330 to my Samsung monitor via HDMI. It has terrible overscan and the picture looks terrible. So much so, that I went back to using VGA cables, but I would still like to be able to have sound and video in one cable.

Went through all the Nvidia settings and there is nothing that fixes the overscan to anything managable. Any suggestions?

While you in the Nvidia settings, it allows you to modify the ext monitors settings, if it is connected. Choose correct resoulution. If you're only using the ext monitor, pick the option to shut the m1330 lid.

It allows you to modify external monitor settings if you're using VGA. No such luck on HDMI, you can only choose 480i/p 720p and 1080i/p. No settings for overscan as my XPS desktop does. Anyone ACTUALLY have any experience using their HDMI out?

I am using my m1330 HDMI port, through a HDMI>DVI cable, to output video to my 22" Samsung LCD (resolution 1680x1050). I have read on the Dell website, and from posts on this forum that you can output at least 1920x1200 with the m1330 port.

Thanks. What drivers are you using? The DELL supplied ones or Laptop 2 go one?

If you are putting out 1080, then your monitor is scaling it internally, this often results in overscan.

Can you output 1920x1200 instead of 1080 over hdmi?

I don't have a 1330 (yet) but in my experience usually 1080 is only available if you tell the drivers that the display is a "TV". Tell it its a monitor and you'll get the normal resolution options.

On my desktop nvidia 6800 in the nVidia Control Panel, in the left pane I select Display->Manage Custom Resolutions. "Treat as HDTV" is an option at the bottom. For a normal monitor, this should be UNchecked. However, if you have a TV, selecting it should allow you to adjust the overscan options, if available.

If you don't have nvidia obviously this is much different.
