I just bought this new laptop and it froze on me during inital set up and dell had to reimage it on the phone with me. Now that I have it where I can use the machine after about an hour of web surfing it seems like the bottom is pretty hot and near the vent is so hot you could not hold your hand there. I was thinking of calling dell back and talking to them about it. Are other people experiencing a lot of heat with this computer?

Well, where are you putting this computer? You might be blocking the vents, which is a possible reason why it is getting so hot.

Call them and ask for a solution... Does this happen on energy saving with SLI turned off? People do experience heat, but "only" when using every bit of power the XPS has ;)

I have the xps 1340 with the sli graphics but I have it on power save mode so I am pretty sure it is not running with the extended graphics. I usually have this computer on my lap as long as I can stand it. I downloaded some resources to see the temps all thought none of them will give me the temp of the hard drive. I never hear the fan working so I am wondering if that is working right now. The temps I currently show are:
    CPU: 55c
    MCP: 67c
    GPU DIODE: 62c
Does this seem bad to any of you?

What exactly are the specs supose to be because I was just playing chess on it for a little while and it feels really hot! It also froze again today. Gonna give it a little while longer before I call in again.

MCP got all the way up to 78c.

If you are continually having these problems, and have done what you can to remedy...Call Dell! ;)

Either have them fix, or get a replacement...you are w/in your 21 days to return for a brand new one.

    Cin ;) :)

I've been looking at grabbing this laptop and, if there's one thing I've learn't about it, it's not a laptop for lap use. Put it on a table or a tray or something... it's overheating most probably because you're legs are restricting the airflow. It's a powerful thing for the size, and that power produces heat. There's a similar spec asus (f6v), albeit with slower graphics (Ati 3470), which runs much much cooler and I'm starting to consider that instead.
