Hi everyone I'm new to the site. I've been reading through the forum and seen that it is really helpfull.
Basically I have a dell studio xps 1340 and the screen image is REALLY dark you can hardly see anything. I've read about the dell xps 1545 having a fuse on the motherboard which if its blown the backlight won't work. It is a led screen and I opened it up to look at the motherboard and couldn't find a fuse next to the display cable connection labeled f1.

Of anyone can help please. Thanks

Chances are the inverter has burnt out. A replacement one can be purchased on ebay for about $15. First of all connect the laptop up to an external monitor to see if you get a screen display. If its ok then its a screen problem and the most likely culprit is the inverter. Just make sure you get the correct one for your laptop screen.

H thanks for the relpy. it does work on a external monitor and I had a look at the screen but it doesn't have a inverter anywhere? Apparently they don't use one they get power from the dc!

An LED screen doesnt have a inverter as such, but it still has a circuit board similar to an inverter. On my XPS M1330 (with a led screen) it is just below the lcd screen. It is about twice as long as a normal inverter and much thinner. As the screen doesn't work anyway, why not dissamble it and take out the circuit board and look for the Dell part number. You can then search ebay for a replacement. Another alternative is to replace the whole screen. There are some on the Us ebay site from about $87 to $135. It would be still much cheaper to fix it yourself rather than get Dell or a computer repair shop to fix it. I am assuming you feel you are able to perform this type of repair yourself.
