Step 2: draw battery + power cord

    step 3: plug usb

step 4 (important): hold the "End" about 3 seconds and then plug the power cord at the same time release the button "End" out.

the first, you need a tool to create usb flash for recovery your bios.
I have attached it in this post :D
you can download it in this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?m2jdiby1xjm
and you need a computer to create a usb flash :D

    step to recovery bios:
step 1:create usb flash(download and run the WINCRIS.exe, and click "start")
step 2:remove the battery and unplug the power cable
step 3: plug in your usb into your laptop
step 4(important):hold down the key "End" in about 3 seconds and then plug the power cable at the same time release the key "End".
step 5: if you see the battery light is on with red, wait a few minute ...
If laptop is restart automatically, it means that the recovery is successful.

    Good luck! :D

I would like to reiterate again the "DO NOT FLASH A12 THERES A GOOD CHANCE IT WILL BRICK YOUR MACHINE" statement, as the same has just happened to me. My machine froze on "Verifying block 11 out of 32" message, and whilst I was still able to move the mouse pointer nothing else responded.
I recovered using the steps mentioned above, but it only worked with the 4th flash drive i tried, the first three would not initiate the flash.

The file that you have uploaded and renamed after you is not actually yours. And I know that because it was made by me.

You should be ashamed of yourself, not only fix your bricked laptop thanks to me, but also took my work and place it under your name.

    You are pathetic.

Hi bulforce. Thank you so much for sharing your experience in recovering from failed BIOS update. Are you the one who posting the guide on mydigitallife forum?

Is this mean Dell laptop (many of them are Studio laptop with Phoenix BIOS) can be recovered anytime when BIOS update failed?

    bulforce,

Do you know which phlash16.exe to use for a 1640 xps. I'm really new at this and I bricked my laptop updating the bios to a14. Guess I shouldn't have trusted dells recommended note.
    Thanks

If the BIOS flash failed, you should consider your notebook is faulty. Call Dell support for assistant. I has spoke with Dell engineer a couple month a go about this issue, he said to me the motherboard might be faulty because the BIOS flash should be successful if you don't interrupt the process.

You can try latest version of phlash16.exe. I wonder why you can't get it work with the CRISIS recovery package available at post #13 if you have XPS 1640. Have you try it?
