Someone please help me, this is driving me crazy. I use my Dell laptop as an HTPC, I have never had this problem before but now all the sudden I'm having this problem.

The problem is, that whenever I shut my laptop screen the HDMI output seems to turn off too, usually when I shut the screen it makes the HDMI port the primary monitor.

Is there something that I accidently changed in the settings? It's annoying to have to leave my laptop screen open to use HDMI out.

Anyhow, I assumed you meant to press the windows button and the P button. This doesn't do anything.

Maybe this is only a windows 7 option then sorry. Open up windows Mobility center turn on presentation settings then select connect to display and chose the 4th option and close your lid

Just to be clear, my computer isn't going into standby or anything. It's just appears to be disabling the HDMI output.

Ahh, I tried that too, err the mobility center, but that doesn't work either.

It turns it off as soon as I shut my screen, then turns it right back on as soon as my screen comes up.

I do get a "da dom" sound too each time I close the screen. Then another sound when I open it.

hmm, this is interesting, under windows mobility center it says "no display connected" even though it clearly is displaying on my TV screen. I wonder if this is related.
