    Hello

Let say first that i hate noisy fan, i cant handle them. They make me go amok. Anyway, i had a studio 1747 which is dead now. I hated it because of the noise and i had promise myself not to buy anything from Dell anymore because of it.

But now, as a student, they give very good prices... Besides, you can customize the laptop, upgrade or downgrade its componnent. I really like it.

I was thinking of buying a XPS 17 but having googled it, it looks like dell didnt learn anything from his mistakes and the noisy fan is still a problem.

Is it true ? Is there nowadays a software who let us control the fan speed ? I remember IK8UIG or something like that but it wasnt working anymore on the studio 1747. Software was too old.

Anyway help me god, i need a new laptop, dont know if its gonna be quiet or not and that scares me :(

First I completely understand what you mean about noisy computers. They make me cringe hearing them.

I've had my XPS 17 for over 6 months and it's quiet most of the time. I convert alot of AVI files to DVD and it usually is quiet even then. I did recently update to A16 BIOS and it seems the fan works more often but other then that it's still pretty quiet. I do use a cooling pad for it too. I haven't gamed on it in quite a while and the last game I played was Sims 3 and it wasn't to loud.

Powerwise it's a beast. I've never had a computer run this smooth and quick. It used to take me about 20 some odd minutes to convert a 1 gig AVI file to DVD but now I can use all my processors and do it in about 3-4 minutes. Plus the 3 gig GT555 I have is pretty decent but what makes the computer is the raw processing power.

I don't think you can go wrong with getting one for the price and performance.
