Are people in this forum overall happy with this system?
-
I'm not happy with the system, but not unhappy either. I'd give it 3.75 stars out of 5, and 0.5 stars of that rating is just because it was so much cheaper than the competition.
If you get a new one with the ATI 5730 GPU you will probably be happy since those are less likely to have power problems than systems with the 4670. Regardless of what Dell claims, the power/throttling problems discovered last year are not completely fixed. -
Im very happy with mine. No issues, but I do wish they got rid of the speaker grills in favor of a dedicated numpad.
-
I'm happy. Would give it a 90%.

I'm thrilled with mine. Performed amazingly, has a sleek design (aesthetically), runs all the games I want very well, and it was cheap for what it has.
-
I like mine - it is by no means perfect (nothing ever is) but I am happy with it overall. Say 8 out of 10.

I'm only going to be using my system for long hours of word processing and the occasional SC2 gaming. I'm really excited to get the system, just worried about all the complaints. But most computers have all sorts of issues I guess.
My exact specs are core i7 720, 6GM RAm DDR3, 900+HD, ATI 5730, 500gb 7200 -

Although I understand from a marketing standpoint why they don't. Then s xps 16s would look just like a studio 17.... -
Those are the exact same specs as the one I ordered on the 20th. I would let you know how I like it, but my estimated delivery date just got pushed out a few days, so I won't have it until the 4th
I bought a Lenovo Y560 (very similar specs) a month ago and it was the worst laptop I've ever used. I returned it to get this Dell. There's not a whole lot of options right now for 15.6 laptops with quality screens and good GPUs. Hopefully I'll love the Dell, it has to be better than the Y560 at least. -
As much as I love the numpad on a desktop, I don't like the design when they put them on laptops. It throws the whole keyboard off center, kinda bothers me.

Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Im giving mine a 99%. I have dust building up down in the right corner of the screen

Im happy with it, just really miss the form factor of my sxps 1340 :-(

My 1645 seems to be running beautifullly. I've got i720qm, RGBLED, 5730, Bluray, 500GB, 6GBDDR,

I am satisfied with my XPS 16!! I dont have any issues. Im constantly looking for ways to make it cooler though like thermal paste. Also i read something about "two finger scrolling" that id like to have...

It will work perfect for those uses. Dont worry about the complaints as there has never been a system on NBR that hasnt had its share of complaints. There will always be people around to complain and there will always be a certain percent of units that are defective or close to defective. Dont worry yourself about the ones that are defective as the chances of getting one is slim.
Yeah would be nice to have a dedicated number pad for number entry (ip addresses are much easier to enter with a numpad). Always preferred it to the number row. As for the marketign I think that too many people dont really care about number pads and the speaker grills can make the puny speakers look 'cooler' I guess and adds to the shock and awe factor when opening your laptop in a public place. I have to admit that when my brother opens his HP 15.6 and reveals a full numpad built in I get VERY jealous, even if he has the base model. -
I give my XPS 1645 8.0 out of 10 points.
The bad: -.5 points for Dell's issue-prone drivers/BIOS updates that are occasionally time-consuming and frustrating to resolve. -1 point for sub-par battery life (~2.8 hours at most with the 9-cell battery and "power saver" option), and -.5 points for being a bit heavy for a 16" laptop.
The good: Though it's a mediocre in terms of portability, it still looks pretty sleek and it's equipped with excellent hardware. I run a lot of architectural and design programs simultaneously, games at high to maximum settings (MW2, BFBC2, L4D2, Mass Effect 2, etc), and the laptop performs beautifully. It's definitely not perfect, but I'm still very satisfied with the XPS 1645. -
I am very happy with my XPS 16. It is a wonderful machine with great looks and awesome performance. Match it up with W7Pro and you get a dead gorgeous system.
But, yes there is still some room for improvement like availability of a dedicated numpad. It is sad that a notebook of this size is not having a dedicated numpad as Inspiron 15R is having one.
Well, not every thing is 100% in this world. -
Wow the 5730/WLED combo makes yet another huge advantage over the RGB and 4670 setup. I can get around 4 hours doing light work.
Happy with XPS 1645?
