    Hi,

My m1530 will not boot up anymore, its hangs on the loading vista screen, then restarts and runs windows startup repair. When that runs the hard drive makes a lot of noise, like the usual sound when its reading but a lot louder.

has anyone heard this problem before, its out of warrenty, will i need to buy a new hard drive?

    do some hard drive checks

or go to dell's diagnostic screen (press F12 when BIOS is loading, then go down to diagnostics) and run through a full set

if you buy a new hard drive, it's cheap and easy to swap... just two screws to pull the drive out... a new 250GB HDD is around $50-$100 right now...

sata drivers.... the make/model doesn't really matter, mostly the price IMO :)

and of course... get an external HDD to backup

Thanks for the advice. I am leaving the house in a min to pick up a new HD (Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA-II) for the XPS.

You said they are simple to install, what exactly do I need to do?

rofl, thanks, super easy. replaced it with a Fujitsu 500GB 5400RPM cause they had none of the 320gb 7200rpm in stock. :(
has improved in windows score. gettin high temps on gpu like 106c, i have some arctic silver knocking about, is it easy enough to apply that, i have done it to many desktops.
