I've downloaded the recommended drivers from Dell's support page and followed the instructions - copied the files on a flash storage and ran Flash.bat.

The program failed with a message, that the OS is not supported - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. But on the dell's website it says that it is supported.

    Has anyone tried it?

    Thanks

Can it be run within Windows OS? or do you need to boot the machine into DOS mode before running the update? Most hard disc updates need to be run in DOS as it means there is less / no other disc activity whilst the update is taking place.

Well, I don't know. I just follow the instructions provided by Dell:

For Other Bootable option (IE. USB key, etc.)

There is nowhere said to reboot under does or whatsoever.

First, u need to burn the firmware update into a clean disk. You can try to use nero or other software to burn it. Roxio does not have this function, so please don't use it. After u burnt it, restart the computer with that disk inside the dvd drive and make your laptop run DVD drive first. Then, the update will begin.

I also can't update the firmware. When i copy the files to an usb-stick (with a fresh format in fat32) and try to run the flash.bat there is an error that says "software is not 64bit compatible". I don't want to burn a CD for a small firmware-update...

Furthermore when i check the firmware of my drive with seatools, it says that firmware 4SDM1 is installed. Do i need the update to 5SDM1? I'm a bit confused because Dell says that the update will install 4SDM1 OR 5SDM1. Which version is displayed when the update is done?

    I got the ST9500420ASG (500gb 7200rpm + freefall sensor)& Win7 Prof. 64
