    1. Has Dell recognized the problem and attempted to solve the problem?

    2. Does anyone know if Dell is coming out with a new laptop model anytime soon?

    Thanks,
    Rich

SXPS 16 has heat problems? Wow, I thought the SXPS was basically the M1530's successor, which had its own terrible heat problems.

My CPU is at 60 right now just using itunes and firefox.

    1. If by "heat" issues you mean it running hot then no, not really. BIOS releases after A05 modified fan control however (increased their activity) and improved the condition for some though made the laptop much noisier for others; I personally didn't notice too much of a difference in both temperature and noise.

    2. Not that I've heard of. Dell finally managed to get rid of their XPS 1330s and 1530s. I can't think of anything they'd release that would compete with the SXPS series though they may make modifications to the SXPS 13 (as thus far only the SXPS 16 has seen the major udpates involving the GPU and monitor).

Huh? Dell is still selling the 1330/1530 line, last I heard.... ;)

    1330:

Though phasing out should be sooner than the later....

Really wondering if i any 1 has some more details about the heat issues on the studio xps 16.

I am obnoxious to know how 'bad' the heat really is? I am used to warm laptops, being a long time ASUS user.. if its REALLY bad and there is nothing i can do... i will defiantly be returning my newly ordered toy.

Errm, I don't see how you accessed those links when you try to view their website o_O. Under their laptop section, the standard "XPS" laptops have been removed and there is no "Shop XPS" option (only Shop Studio XPS" is present).

@Anonmander: If you don't commonly use your laptop/notebook directly on your lap for more than 30-45 minute periods (and the 9200M GS isn't enabled) you should be fine. Otherwise you might want to look elsewhere. Normally I just place a text book between myself and the computer XD.

Aside from that the internal temperatures are fine. Because the bottom is metallic, it will feel hot to the touch after being on for some time.

    Here is the link: www.dell.com

    Then go to SHOP
Underneath you will See the Tab/Drop down for: Laptops & Mini's
(Here I print screened it for you!)
There is a option for *XPS Laptops > XPS 1330, XPS 1530
IT's underneath the Seperate subsection above for the Studio & Studio XPS...

It does get heated a lot specially when you start working it up but after I bought a cooler pad for 30 bucks, I have no more problems with heat :)

My use so far is that it runs warm to the touch (i.e. "there's heat there!") during normal use, and even minorly taxing use gets the touchpad-underside running hot.

I'm looking into a Notepal Infinite, as it seems to be a good lightweight cooler for actual lap-usage.

I don't experience any of the heat issues people on these fourms experience. I will go as far as use this thing on my bare lap when in my boxers at night. If you want hot you should have tryed the 1330. Mine got so hot i use to have to take my hands off the palm rest and turn the laptop off because my hands were burning.

I have the same processor as you, windows vista, same ram, a 250gb HDD, and the 4670 GPU which is supposed to produce the same heat as the 3670....and the 1366 screen.

Maybe my house is 8 degrees hotter than you or something.

I will say that it ran noticeably cooler in my basement than in my bedroom (seperated by about 10 degrees fahrenheit). In the basement, it was just notably warm. Bedroom is grew to be uncomfortably hot.

I find keeping it propped up in the back makes it manageable. Adding a cooler has made it to where I no longer have heat issues.

I use the Zalman NC2000. I made a review about it... check the FAQ on page 1 of the new SXPS 16 + 4670 owners thread.

Powerful systems with powerful GPU's are going to give off heat.
    Work around it.
