Hello, suddenly for two days ago I left my Dell XPS M2010 on while eating. Ca 20 minutes later I was back. I touched my mouse to get it on but nothing happend. After spamming the mouse and keyboard without success I shut it down on the startbutton.
When I was going to turn it on again it started, the start-button, bluetooth-button etc is blue as the should be. But the screen is still black. I have restarted the computer millions of times. Two times when I first restarted I could see the Dell screen loading, but then It went black again. Now it's always black. You can't open the CD, or anything else.
Me and my brother started to open the computer. I was going to clean the video-card since I heard on different forums that must be the problem. But one screw inside the computer was impossible to open, so I used a drill to get it up. I slipped with the drill and for one second it touched the Motherboard. A little crack, ca one centimeter arose.
I stopped, I understood that It just should be best to let it be. After screwing back everything again I started it.
But now, nothing happens, in fact, when I put in the adapter in the computer the adapter's power shuts down. What has happend? Have I destroyed the motherboard now too?
What do you think I should do'? My warranty at Dell is ended, shall I try to get it to a Computer Service?
Thanks for reading! Greetings Ekéus

Whatever your prior problem was, my guess is that after you used the drill, you either fried part of your motherboard or grounded it out. The frying part is bad and yes you will have destroyed it. Grounding out though is usually not bad. It just means a part of your board was not screwed in or seated properly and is now touching the case. Computers will do funny things when the motherboard is grounded.
I would suggest though that you take it to a computer repair shop or have a friend who knows what they are doing, take a look at it. Picking and poking inside a computer when your not sure what you are doing is a recipe for disaster. Then again, its one of the quickest, if most expensive, ways of learning the dos and donts of computer service. -
But I dont think I have fried it, or what it means. I was drilling at a srew, but the screw wasent located at the MB, It was located on something that was on the MB.
But do you think it's the crack that has destroyed the MB? It is very tiny...
I've mailed a few Repair Shops, I hope might be able to fix this... -
You should only use a screw driver for any screws inside your PC. Believe it or not, a screw driver is more powerful than the drill for getting screws un-jammed as well. The crack in the Mobo may have also severed whatever circuits were running through that part of the board.

Next time use hammer instead... its way more reliable

hahahahahah, I was actually asked by my co-worker what I was reading that was so funny becuase I was laughing so loudly at this comment. -
Can you take a close up picture of the crack? Would then be easier to tell if you destroyed something...

Keep in mind the PCBs used on current devices are all multi-layer. That means even if you don't visibly see the damage on the surface, there is likely to be 2 or 3 layers remaining you can't see.

I think u have drilled one of the power lines across pcb.Sorry u have screwed it

Probably best you just buy a new motherboard, seems like you have done some damage... Use the link above, or even search eBay/etc for a new one.
You can, however, take it to a computer shop and they might be able to diagnose it a little better then what we could, as we cannot physically look at the machine. -
sounds like you had a bad motherboard in the first place-
Have I destroyed my XPS?
