Heading to college on Saturday, so today is my last day to get anything important.

I have a USB hub, extra charger, external HD for backup/PVR, external cooler, and that's pretty much it. Any programs I should install or anything else to buy?

You should get a lock for it, especially if you are going to live in the dorms. You have no idea how many people have had their laptops "prank stolen". It makes people realize how easy it is to just walk in an take something.

If you have long classes an extended battery. Could also use microsoft office from their ultimate steal promotion that is starting soon. Also a backpack.

Depending on the college, you might make sure that you have an ethernet cable. Even though most now have wireless, you cannot always get a signal throughout the campus. Your mileage may vary.

I have an ethernet cable (even though my dorm has Wireless N...woot), have Office. Don't have a 9-cell (albeit my battery life isn't too bad anyways, I'll just have to be careful), or a Kensington lock (I'm not sure if my dorm has a lock-slot, I'll have to check.) I did install Lojack though.

the belkin alarm is crap, dont even buy it... i got it for 42cent -> free-after-rebate + 42cent stamp + envelope....

get a wire lock with combo/key..... the belkin alarm isnt worth it (if u want, i can show u a video of how it works, and u'll immediately exclaim hwo crappy it is)

I would think a laptop lock would be really annoying if you move around alot. During college I'm rarely in the room and I carry my laptop everywhere I go, to each their own I guess. What I would get is an extended battery. I am usually on campus for at least 4 hours and in classrooms with 400+ people there is no outlet to plug into. I really liked the Latitude X300 that got 8 hours of battery life for me. This M1330 can only do 4 hours with the 6 cell =(.

well i'll probably be taking my laptop in my backpack with me almost everywhere because i wudn't trust it being alone in my dorm...

i have a swissgear synergy but im looking for a good but inexpensive (~$20) laptop sleeve..you might also wanna invest in that. i am trying to find a good one.
