SO I got my xps 15 a cooling pad (Targus chill mat) to use while in use on my lap or on my bed to keep it cool, and to keep the vents open. The usual reasons.
The problem is, according to speedfan, with the fan on, the temperatures on the HD have lowered about 6*C, and the CPU about 3*C, but the casing on the laptop heats up MUCH more than usual. Usually when I use it, the areas I rest my wrists on is barely warm, but with the fan going, that area, and the area below the touch pad heats up quite a bit.
I dont mind the external heat, I just wanna make sure nothing is wrong with this behavior.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
What are your ambient room temperatures? Do you have a temperature probe?

This may just be a case of normal thermodynamics. You are removing more heat from the processor and GPU by having better airflow since more heat is being transferred to the air via convection. The air leaving your laptop is thus hotter.
