I have an XPS 1530. A couple of months ago I couldn't log into my user name. Or rather when I did, the computer acted as if I were a new user. My regular desktop didn't come up etc. After many hours with second level tech support, it was fixed.

Yesterday when I started the computer, I got a blue screen. It said something about a PAGED FAULT in a non-paged area. The screen disappeared and although the startup was slow, everything seemed okay.

Last night there was an automatic update. When I started the computer this morning, I logged into my user name, but got the message that the computer was configuring my desktop. And of course, I was on a "new" desktop, just like before. Also, my cursor is now jumping around. Up and backward. So I can't even type a full sentence without having to relocate it.

I'm running my McAfee right now. No virus has showed up yet. (It's running extremely slowly.)

I need help.   I will call Dell. But I know some of you guys are smarter than their guys.

goto lavasoft, and down load ad-aware
    http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-20...=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5&cdlPid=10844457

while d/ling goto "disk Cleanup" it is located at Start>ALL Programs>Accessories>System Tools>disk cleanup. Click ok to scan through Drive C, and it might take a few minutes, than Click the ticker in the box for all items listed, than Click OK.

After that is down cleaning, boot into safe mode, and run ad aware and your virus scanner after that.
Press F8 before windows starts to load to get into safe mode. and would if your have a hard time with the timing of it, than Press the power button to start your computer, wait 1 second, than keep pressing F8 until it brings the screen up that asks you if you want to start in Safe Mode.

    Thanks, steven,

I forgot to ad that after I got the blue screen, I got a message about my WLAN card. (Wireless controller stopped working).

Also, for the past ten minutes or so, my cursor is behaving. I guess you're thinking it's a virus.

Just to make sure. I'm going to rerun McAfee while in safe mode?

Just to make sure, you should run thru all those steps I listed. I'm not thinking a virus as mush as just spyware building up in your system.
