OK.. This forum has some great information but I'm having a hard time finding a simple answer.. and it's probably b/c this is a stupid question.
I just received an XPS 17 (L702x) from the Dell Outlet. Its a 900p monitor. I would like to explore the possibility of swapping it out with a 1080p.
Is there anything else I would need to do other than find a 1080p display that works/fits? No other parts needed??
That being said... I'd love to have some recent input on a good value 1080p replacement and where to get it. CHEAP. lol. Im just used to the desktop real estate that it provides.
I also only have the 1GB video... didn't have the 3GB with the other specs I wanted and Im not a gamer.
Thanks!

have a look here it mostly applies to the l702x as well

As long as it's a non-3D display it should work just fine. The 3D display I believe has a different (50pin?) LVDS cable and it completely by-passes the intel GPU.
Also, I have no idea which screens would work specifically. I read the entire 400 pages on the L702x thread over time and there were examples in there but I don't remember what pages they were for the life of me.
You may want to check out the XPS wiki or contact Scott RC Tek, he could probably give you the quick and dirty or at least how to find the information you seek.
As far as the 550 1GB vs the 555m 3GB, you don't really need to worry about that, since your system is non-3D. If it were the 3D system and you were looking to replace the monitor I'd imagine it's quite different. (e.g. couldn't put your current 900p display on that system). But, I could be wrong.
Sorry I couldn't be more help

Thanks for the quick replies! I think I have found and settled on a B173HW01 V4.
The trick is finding one within my budget!
