The bluetooth module in laptops is only a very small chip/card. You can usually order it from Dell spare parts, and its very simple to fit yourself. Just plug it into its connector and off you go.

Ive installed several on Latitudes before.

If you find it can you provide a link or post the part number? I'm in the same boat.

I got that bluetooth module on my m1530 and if you plan on using it with a bluetooth keyboard an mouse I would say its not worth the trouble. On 2 different sets the internal module didnt work well at all (random disconnects and jittery mouse if it connected at all). I just disabled it in the device manager and used the dongle for my set... Just my 2 cents...

I got mine by calling Dell. The part was listed on their end as "refurbished" but still had full warranty and was only $20. Easy to install, Vista recognized it right away and it works!

I use it in my 1720 (the 355 that is) with the rather large Microsoft explorer bluetooth mouse and it works great. When I use the mouse with bluetooth headphones I do see an issue.

As for getting one you can also get them on ebay just search for: dell 355

I see several that include shipping for $25 Dells prices will probably be around mid 30's once you include shipping and tax.

I assume your unit can fit the 355 and is pre-wired for it of course.

My mouse, headset and keyboard work great although I will say the range for the headset isn't as great as they which is 30 feet but it usally cuts out at about 10 feet.

Most of the laptops Ive installed Bluetooth modules in all used the same module - maybe its just one module that fits all laptop, since its pretty tiny in size.

I only ever really use my Bluetooth to transfer photos etc from my phone...

There's no reason to panic, as you can order it from either Dell (recommended) or fleabay. To install it, you most likely need remove only one cover held in place by one or two screws, and will not have to disassemble the laptop.

You will need to install the drivers yourself, which can be a bit of a pain, though it usually goes smoothly.

Once you're already buying it on your own why not check of the BT 360 card is compatible and buy that instead - it's their newest BT card.

The refurbished BT355 used to be $11 shipped. Now it is $20 for a new one. The one I got has a Dell part number CW725 that is no longer listed on their site. It is not a mini-PCI like the wireless network interface. It has a small connector at one end to plug in cable. Mini-PCI plugs into a slot.

I,m waiting for my xps1530 without bluetooth and will install a card when it gets here. I noticed that some cards come with the cable to connect and some do not. Is the cable connector for the blue tooth module already in the chassis? Or, should one buy the module that comes with the cable?

for M1530, the cable is already there. M1530's BT is a little tricky to replace/install, you have to remove the small/thin media control penal right above the keyboard, and be careful when you do it, it has a cable connect to the mainboard, you don't wan to rip it off, and the monitor cable is also near it, you don't want to break that either.

that's not the right one for M1530
    Instruction
is the right one, if you click on the link to "Removing the Hinge Covers and Center Control Cover" you will see the small media penal you have to remove and the connector under it.
