Hi, I am replacing a 4 year old xps m1210, and I have my eye on the SXPS. I keep hearing how great the 16.0" RGBLED screens are compared to the 15.6" WLED screens, but I've never seen one, and they are discontinued.

Anyway, I will use the laptop for net browsing, photo & video editing, a bit of 3d gaming, and maybe some work including AutoCAD.

I came accross the following 2 month old system (open box), that is being offered for $1,600. It's got the FHD RGBLED screen I think I want, and also comes with an i7-820QM which is probably wasted on me.

Can anyone comment on whether the configuration makes sense, and is it a good value?

It's an above average configuration, and the price is good as long as it's like-new.

gaah, I noticed you have a very similar config. How are you liking the 820 vs 720, and the RGBLED vs WLED?

I have a 1647 with an i7-620 and the RGB screen, but I have not seen the WLED screen for comparison. However, I will say the RGB screen is not for everybody. It requires a lot of calibrating to look good. One key issue is that the web is in a narrower color space than the RGB screen is capable of displaying. So you have to balance making the web look good with making, say adobe photoshop pictures look good. In the end I came up with a balance I was happy with (and some of the cool wallpapers do look spectacular), but it can be frustrating and takes some work. IMHO, if you really just want to browse the web out of the box you might be better off with the WLED screen.
